thinking of investing in something that will make my communte on unlit country roads possible/ better than currently.

i have a Fenix L2d and the cheapo Ultra fire version. i get plenty of light from these but was looking to upgrade. i'm not really confident at speed with the amount of light produced by the two of these. I seem to recall seeing here a previous thread that mentioned a similar set-up i.e. torch but something stronger, thought it was also an ultrafire. have checked the wiki and don't seem to see exactly what i'm looking for.

also are teh deal extreme 18650 bateries ok? do they require a specific charger?

    any suggestions?

Have a look on the wiki. Also search for threads on the fenix tk11, mte p7 and mte mce. You will need a specific charger for the 18650s. Only around 10 dollars on dx.

I have this DX torch and it's pretty incredible. It's available in multimodes but I've had loads of trouble with DX torches and multi modes - the simple on and off ones are grand though so go for that.

Motorists definitely see me coming with this torch (I know some people think a flashing light is more noticeable but this thing is like having your own proper headlight). It's also great for lighting your way on dark country roads. It can fully light up the chimney on a house 7 down from mine.

I use a velcro bike mount from here - ridiculously overpriced but it works, though DX do also do a version of the Fenix bike mount but it looks overly fussy to me. Thinking of mounting a second torch to my helmet but that torch is almost too strong to have flying about the place from the head so I might go with something flashing for the lid.

Mars 4 for the back (great price from CRC at the moment). Mars 3 doesn't catch well in it's holder and fell out after a short while on a descent.
