Independent but Living at Home

    Hi!

Quick question about eligibility for the grant. I am 24. I have been working and living away from home for the last year but am going back to college and to living at home in September. I have a degree and a masters and will be doing a higher diploma.

I will not be receiving any financial assistance from my parents this year, and will be paying them rent! Sucks, I know, but that's just the way it is!

I have never applied for a grant before because my parents paid for everything - but this year I'm on my own. I started filling in the forms, and ticked the 'Independent Mature Candidate' box. I have ESB bills from my previous address, but I'm just wondering - because I'm living at home now, do I have to include details of my parents income?

I won't be able to get details of my Dad's income because he has recently moved out and our relationship is strained to say the least.

Basically, I want to just fill out the whole form as an 'independent mature candidate', and leave the questions relating to my parents income blank. But I'm not sure if I can do this because I will be living in the family home during the academic year.

    Any advice/input appreciated!

If you are an independant mature student you dont have to give parents income etc so just use your old address when you apply and dont say anything about moving home !! Or else move out, if you're not getting any assistance from them would you not be better off living on your own anyway ???

I don't think you qualify for a grant because you are going down the chain of education ie. Degree --> Hdip --> Masters --> Phd
If you already have a postgrad qualification, you are not covered to do a higher diploma, although I stand to be corrected. Check it out with your Co Co.
