Stevoman, I'm no expert but from what I can gather the learners licence is coming in , in November with the new 3 year licence and is for 14 year olds and up to learn to shoot whilst supervised with a cal. and gun mentioned on the licence ie: my 14 year old can learn with my .177 air / .22 / .223 rifle while I supervise and teach him. It cost the ame as a normal licence ie €80 for 3 years.

But I am open to correction.

I don't think the same fee applies, but I could be wrong. I'm told this will be commenced very shortly and you'll be in a position to license your juniors under the new system.

The only thing I find mildly sily is that the last year of the license will probably never be used because after three years a 14 year old will be 17 and eligible for a 'full' licence for a year.

    Why wouldn't he convert?

    I wish!

No, we're stuck with what we've got which is a bit of a camel, but at least we've got it. :)

No, just a designated adult who has a full firearms cert. I think they might have to be over a certain age like 25. The training cert will be for three years and be half the cost of a normal fee. It lasts three years to be in sync with the three year license and it's not necessarily just for 14 year olds.
