Hope it's okay to say this on this thread. While I was out a few weeks back I got talking to a friend and he was of the opinion Joyce was planning on going back to the Irish squad when the four years was up,

just something I had heard, and thought I'd pass it on :)...

Not a single Northants player in the squad.

Niall O'Brien made 30 against the Aussies today and took a couple of catches, so not too bad. He has been a great keeper for Northants and was player of the year last season, wouldn't be surprised if he was there or there about this year. He will struggle to get in Englands team if and when he wants to go down that route as firstly the selectors have a few old favourites keeper wise that they never look past and secondly its very rare for a Northants player to get picked for England.

I am a big fan of Niall, but he is nowhere near the England setup.

Which is probably a good thing.

His Quality with the gloves is very important to Ireland in internationals.

True, but Wilson is a great keeper and batsmen too so if he gets the chance, we shouldn't be too stuck for a ready replacement! :)

Have to agree with you. Its not that Niall is not good enough its just the one position where England actually have incredable depth!!

Just a quick update on Niall O' Briens county season, he hit 81 off 46 in a one dayer against Surrey today. He was Northants player of the year last year and he will be there or there abouts again this year. Englands loss is Northants gain

Just out of curiosity, would you consider yourself a fan of Northamptonshire?
If I'm not mistaken you seem to know a fair bit about them....

Lived in Northampton when I was a child, never really got cricket when I was younger, only really when we left did I really get it. Try and go over for at least a one dayer or 20/Twenty. Very reliant on South Africans but are in the same boat as a lot of smaller, non test ground counties. The days of them poaching Geordies has gone since Durham appeared

Actually going well in CC D2 this year, finally made it to 20/20 finals day (although were hopeless!) and decidedly average one day season.

Incidentally does anyone else have an adopted English county they follow or is there no interest in the English game?

I'm a Kent fan since around the Martin McCague time when a girlfriend took me along to Tunbridge Wells. Living in London, I go to about 12 matches a year (not all Kent) and have seen a few Morgan/ Joyce knocks. Nobby was very sloppy as a batsman when at Kent and fair play to him for upping his batting prowess substantially since his move to Northants. Great that so many Irish 'uns are plying their trade here now.

I'm a Yorkshireman, although we consider it more of a country than a county!

I became a member this year, to help get Ashes tickets - unfortunately I then took my father and father-in-law to the first day of the Headingley test!
