To scrap my BMW or not?

I have a BMW with a cracked cylinder head which is currently sitting in a BMW garage who are estimating 3400 Euro to fix.......that includes the already replaced timing chain and DMC unit!!! I am led to believe that only BMW can replace the cylinder head as it requires specialist equipment......does anyone know if this is the case or could i get it done cheaper somewhere else?
Also, if i were to cut my losses on this car, how would i go about getting some money for it in its current condition. Its a 05 car and probably worth something for parts....it has a new timing chain and DMC unit after all!!!!

I'd suggest ringing around a few indies to get another estimate before you scrap it - can't hurt anyway. Sounds painfully expensive but typically dealers are the most expensive anyway. Someone'll be able to suggest one.

    Which model is it anyway?

Defo get other opinions from garages before making any decisions, i know in dublin there are specilaist independent mechanics that could help, but ask around in your area, other mechanics must be able to recommend somebody, even get a nixer done from mechanic in garage your car is currently in.
On scrapping your 2005 car- you are mad. Think about repalcement costs for this car. While not knowing your model, miles, condition etc.. hard to price but i'm sure it would cost a hell of alot more than cost of fixing

Give traynors.co.uk a ring for a replacement engine. Might be a better option than the repair.

Ive been trying other garages but as yet am being told that they dont have the equipment. Will keep trying tho. Does anyone know of a specialist mechanic in the Mayo/Sligo area??

John gave me real good advice when I was working at a problem with a friends 520i... This was over the phone.. was spot on with his diagnosis and problem fix. Low fuel pressure caused by a weak fuel pump...!

    Top Man....!

    Get Johns advice first..!

Probably a bit too far away from you but there is also an independent garage that specialises in BMW repairs/ maintenance in Abbeyfeale, Co Limerick. Although it is not a BMW I have taken my car to them a few times in the past and they seem pretty reasonable. Below is the link: -

    http://www.bavarianautotechnik.com/

I have also seen advertised in a local Limerick paper Clondrinagh Motor Centre who pride themselves on having 50% cheaper labour charges than main dealers and who specialise in BMW also. Below is link: -

OP if it comes to the case you are scrapping the car (hopefully not) don't give it away anyway or if you think you are getting a poor price for it please pm me before you do any deal as I may be interested. Hope you get it sorted though:)

There is one for breaking here:

Might be worth checking the price of that engine
