Looking into acoustic gigging - advice?

    Hi All,

I've been looking to start up a band for a while, and am having no luck with that so for the interim I'm looking into doing a few more solo performances. I'm interested in finding out what kind of resources are available in terms of acoustic nights, open mic nights, any other collections of musicians for a common goal.

I've looked around a bit and found the zodiac sessions (who never reply to messaging of any sort), the acoustic nights at the Haypenny bridge inn (which is more so focused on comedy), and have had some minor success with the guys at blue smoke productions who were willing to let me have a slot even though I have no backing band. I have not been able to find any other arrangement in place :(

I'm fairly well experienced and can play a range of material, from Folk to Prog/alternative so no real problem there. I do prefer alt/indie music however.

Has anyone else had any success finding an open slot to perform (mostly) original material (specifically in the Dublin area)? I'd like to have a chance to get my music out there as much as possible.

    Thanks in advance,

    Mixomatosis

    hey

have you tried getting support with bands? theres gigs going on every night in dublin that you're bound to find some nice bands suited to you. Send us a link to your myspace or whatever you got and i'll post you around to some people :)

also would you consider doing covers gigs? because i could possibly get you a couple in gibneys, malahide

The Cobblestone in Smithfield have singer/songwriter solo acts, usually supporting bands. Try to find out what bands are playing there and secure a support slot. Best o' luck!

Thanks a mil for your replies! I gotta admit, in my infinite wisdom I never once thought of trying to secure a support slot with a band :P

A link to my myspace you say? Why certainly :Dhttp://myspace.com/nodebut

    Thanks again,
