Suggestions for a monitor.

Here are the specs I'd like :
    22"
    1080P
    HDMI
    Ideally less than €200

I started off with the BenQ E2200HD, but following on from some dodgy marketing tactics on AVforums, as well as a general distaste for BenQ in the online communities I've sampled, I've gone off the idea of it. So, my next tactic was to go to Newegg, put in all the specs I wanted, and see which monitors were rated highly by the customers. I landed on this, the ASUS VH226H. Now ain't that a lovely price difference? €200 vs €120. I know that the USA always has better prices, but it isn't usually that extreme and that's what's making me waver on buying the ASUS ... it's not that easy to find in Europe either.

So, if anyone could suggest to me some qualified alternatives, that would be very helpful :pac:

Check out the Samsung T220 reviews.

    Thanks, but the T220 is 1680 x 1050 when I'd really prefer 1920 x 1080.

Wasn't able to find a whole lot of info on the LG, I'll keep looking. Ideally I'd like something that was backed by plenty of reviews, like the ASUS...

I actually have that Asus and it is very impressive!

Really can't get over the pricing for it either here are two places that do it.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-VH222H-LCD-Monitor-20000/dp/B001TH8ODI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1248463177&sr=1-1

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-014-AS&groupid=17&catid=949&subcat=

Overclockers is cheaper but amazon has the great customer service(amazon prob cheaper on delivery). Both offer great value for monitors though!
Keep in mind too that on checkout overclockers charge 21% vat on checkout!

Also here's a 23" monitor and the user reviews for it are incredibly good when you consider the price.
Only downside is the obvious missing of dvi and hdmi ports but that doesn't stop most people giving it 5 stars!

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-23-inch-LCD-Monitor-40000/dp/B001QFP0X0/ref=amb_link_84367073_4?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=14SMRY0N52AY97PJBREA&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470369033&pf_rd_i=561904

    Only 120gbp

This website also has some great offers on monitors, www.lambdatek.co.uk

Thanks for the links. However, the monitor you link to is the VH222H which slightly lower spec than the 226 (2ms vs 5ms response time in particular). It also seems to get great reviews though. The VH226H is £180 on Amazon, so it's just as expensive as Elara really :(

Umm.. that's not the same monitor as the one Unregistered. linked to. I have heard plenty of good things about the LG 2353, but that's a 23" monitor whereas the one linked to was a 22", a 2261 :S

Edit : I see you linked to the 2361 yourself ... it seems to be a strange region-specific model line, it's very hard to find info on it.

Edit again : tracked down both the 2361 and 2353 on Elara. The 2353 is 10 euro more expensive (215 vs 205), but all the specs seem to indicate that the 2361 is slightly superior...

    http://elara.ie/products/detailsfullat.asp?productcode=ECE1749204#spec

Maybe the 2361 is a slight update to the 2353??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,851 ✭✭✭massy086

well the one i have is the 2361v i would have thought the 2361 is better than the lower numbered one being a newer product

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

According to LG documentation the viewing angle on the 2353 is slightly better (176 vs 170), but other than that they're pretty much identical. Thanks for the recommendation, I think I'll be getting the 2361 from Pixmania as soon as I get the all clear from my parents.

"This product is no longer available !"

Great. Well, I still had it in my basket so I ordered it anyway. Very very unlikely to work out for me though :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,851 ✭✭✭massy086

i would,nt start messing with pixmania they can be a nightmare just go 4 this http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=431103 sur its only 1" and in stock

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

Ah, well, I'm still holding out hope. Elara have it listed for 205 but not in stock, and Hardwareversand.de have it for 185 in stock, which would be 215 delivered which is actually cheaper than Elara would be. If pixmania doesn't work out I'll buy it from hwvs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,851 ✭✭✭massy086

trust me you,ll be glad u held out i have mine a month and still think its the s##t lol:):):)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

Yep, I'll wait for Pixmania to get back to me saying they don't have it in stock, then maybe wait a few days for the start of my next credit card cycle, then buy it from HWVS. Thanks for the recommendation in the first place, it looks like a really nice bit of kit.

Well my W2361V arrived from pixmania in the end, after some confusion about the delivery address (they left out one of the lines). With respect to its size and clarity, it is great, but I'm a little disappointed with its colour reproduciton. Would anyone be able to tell me an easy way to go about calibrating it? Thanks.

Not used it, as either the colours on my monitor are fine or I just haven't the same eye for detail :). But LG have a tool that you can download from their website that is exactly what you are looking for.

Thanks for that MP. I haven't tried it out yet, but I'm hoping that it saves the settings to the monitor itself rather than the computer, because I use the monitor with a couple of laptops so ideally I'd like to to be calibrated for every computer, not just the one with forteManager installed on it.

I would presume that it would work by physically changing the monitor settings once per change rather than ever time it starts, I could be wrong of course. Let us know how you find it anyway, I may give it a go myself.
