    Hi

I am planning to purchase one of these to control my av equipment. But I was wondering what kind of control I could have over my pc.

All my music is on the hard drive so I was hoping to connect the pc to my tv to use as a monitor and my av recevier for sound and then control the playing of the music using the harmony. Is it possible to use it to control winamp or mediamonkey?

I presume that I could use it as a windows media centre remote? My motherboard is a asus p5w deluxe and it came with an infrared receiver and remote control. Could I use this receiver with the harmony or do I need one that comes with a media centre remote?

    Thanks

    Dave

I've a Harmony 895 and use it to control windows media center, and have sound via SPDIF to my av receiver.

Bottom line is, if you have a remote (or multiple remotes) working these devices or applications today then if for some reason they are not in the Harmony database, you can have the harmony learn the commands.

    Be lost without mine.

I bought one of those harmony Ones a while ago.
if i remeber well, there is a link on the Logitech website where you more or less can make a test to see if all your devices are supported by the RC.
You can always, like said before, make the harmony learn the commands.
But it is easy as it can be with the software of logitech to set things up when your devices are supported.

Always nice to see the xbox being turned off, the reciever change input, the tv switch from component to hdmi input , the dvd player booting up and opening the tray with just 1 push of a button :pac:

If I just use it to control windows media centre is there anything special about the ir receivers or is the one that came with my board likely to work?

Can the harmony be used to control other applications on the pc like winamp?

You said you have an IR receiver and remote, do they work now ? If they work now, the Harmony will be able to do whatever they do.

I purchased an MCE Remote, and now use the IR receiver from that with my harmony. I also purchased and use this keyboard which works with that IR receiver from the remote, although I think both are hard to comeby these days.

With regard to controlling other apps, again if you can control them currently via a wireless IR keyboard, you could program the harmony to learn any commands the keyboard uses e.g. hotkeys, etc.

If your case has a built in IR reciever or any kind of IR receiver that works with IRtrans or Imon software drivers then the harmony has no trouble with either of those.

As posted previously , if you have a working IR remote the Harmony can replace it.
