With iLocalis you can control your iPhone from your computer connected to the internet. If your iPhone has been stolen you can find it with the track feature or even make a remote call or SMS to see the new number if the SIM has been changed.

great app, just downloaded the trial..works well.
however..being realistic..if some1 robbed my phone, 1st thing they would probably do is a factory restore...now i know if u pay 15euro for the premium version of this app , it comes with a feature that u can set from ur pc which disables ones ability to delete the app from the phone..but im sure a factory restore would overwrite this...then you wont be able to track anymore...

why are there people out there that do not jailbreak:confused: 3gs handles cydia/jailbroken apps very smoothly compared to 3g...

id say the only reason the app store refused this app entry is because currently mobile me has a similar feature, but you have to pay a monthly subscription to apple for it...and they don't like competition...

Some of us prefer the security and stability of a non-jailbroken device.

hmm, ok im just not aware of the risks so..stability wise..ill agree that my 3g was more stable when not jailbroken, buy my 3gs handles it just fine..no stability issues at all ...

security wise..ok i wasnt aware that there were security issues with a jailbroken phone..can you explain?

Is is safe to assume that apps hosted on cydia are vetted before they are approved? i.e could some guy make an app with a hidden virus to track your usage and possible get you details when say logging into online banking? Or does cydia chech out all apps to make sure they are legit before hosting them?

Does Location Services need to be on for the mapping to work???

    as far as i know...

in order to pinpoint your location you will need to use location services. when finished you can turn off. If your phone gets lost/robbed, it doesnt matter if location services is off...you simply log on to the main website and you can remotely turn it on yourself from your pc, and then track its location.

Meh, since i jailbroke and unlocked my phone and changed back to vodaphone I have full signal bars all the time compared to o2. I havent noticed any changes in speed or stability of the iphone. Plus I get that warm fuzzy feeling about not having to be tied to the shiity service o2 provide.

I agree that for unlocking it is totally necessary - I had to do it constantly with my EDGE iPhone.

I'm just not a big fan of the JB. I found it slowed down the device, even without installing any apps.

I know the 3GS is faster, so it's not affected as much, but what's going on in the background that could be causing the slowdown?

And to answer the question about Cydia approving apps, I think some of the repos do review their submissions, but I'm not sure if all of them do.

A jailbreak app can run as root and do/access a lot more than an App Store approved app can.

I think the community is great (I started off coding jailbreak apps, pre SDK) and they have pushed Apple to add new features. As far as I know there's never been a piece of malware coded for the phone, but I think it's important to make people aware of what jailbreaking actually does to the device.
