Which HRM

    Hi all,

I wanna buy a HRM. I like to buy stuff right and once rather than upgrading and accumulating junk. Also, I want something that'll do everything. So my list of desireable functions are:

    1. HRM
    2. Bike mountable
    3. power, cadence, speed, average speed, distance and the rest of the usual bike functions.
    4. Wrist strap attachable with as many running functions as is possible.
    5. GPS so I can keep track of routes and upload and store on my laptop.
Don't ask for much do I? The problem is I want a Garmin Edge 705 but I don't think that'll work while running or swimming. There's a few sweet Polaris multi trainers but don't really have the GPS functionality.

Whats my best option that'll tick as many of the boxes above as possible?

I bought the garmin 705 for me bike and I also tried too use it for running with a clip on pouch but it is a bit noticable due to its size
In retrospect i think i should have bought a gramin forerunner 305 cause it doe everything you want except give exact maps of your location which you don't really need unless your doing some serious cycling.

That 310xt is pretty cool in fairness. I'll have to save my pennies for that one i think. Will be pretty expensive after I buy the unit, speed/cadence sensor and HR strap.

Yeah but it does absolutely everything, + triathlons, and has a very good battery life 20hrs training mode. As you say above, it's a one off investment and you are not faffing about with cheap dodgy gadgets. I have a 405cx and it's cool bar poor battery life. There is no real difference between that and the 405 bar improved algorithms for calculating calories burned.

The original 405 has come down in price now and I think you can get a cadence sensor. I think krusty has began using it for cycling aswell but I don't know how he mounts the device on his bike. The 310 is waterproof aswell so can be used for swimming I think.

Don't rush in, consider it and invest wisely, taking into account all your needs. In retrospect, I'm sorry I paid the extra for the 405cx when the 405 would have done the job just as well.

I bought the 310XT HR package this week with the speed/cadence sensor. It cost about €378 (£326.38) in total. Thats from handtec.co.uk. They're awaiting stock and have told me i should have it in the next 10 days or so. They're the cheapest i've found.

I'm very tempted - let me know how you get on. Anyone know how much a healthy kidney is worth on the open market these days - I really want one <drool>

Thats not a bad price all in. I'd be very tempted at that price. Thanks to everyone for the input!
