    Hi all.

I am Daniele, I am part of Nação Zumbí- an international capoeira group - and I will start soon a new capoeira group in central Dublin.

Courses will started on middle August free of charge for the first months. I am planning to train in parks in central Dublin as far as the weather permits that.

If you are intrested to know or to start training the art of capoeira angola, or even if you just have further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at dublin@nacao-zumbi.com or go to our web site capoeiradublin.com (it redirects to our international site nacao-zumbi.com) or as well reply here .

    Cheers.

    Daniz

    sweet but.
wouldnt it be better to practice in a gym?I have no experience in capoeria whatsoever but I do know that u need soft surfaces and some crash mats to avoid injury.

i did butterfly twist on grass before and got injured.

i think practicing kicks is ok on grass, but acrobatic movements on grass, not such a good idea.
im no expert of course, this is just my opinion.

what do u have to say for that?

I have no experience in capoeria...

...i did butterfly twist on grass before and got injured.

I think that explains itself :D Under proper supervision Capoeira should be perfectly safe on grass.

B-twist isnt just a capoeria move,I learned some XMA moves,B-twist was one of them.
I got it down properly now but i dont think a professional spotter would really help.
a crash mat would be perfect for avoiding damage and you could just keep trying again and again.

    hi!

you got a good point here. I'll try to explain further.

i definitely prefer to work in a gym than in a park cause you definitely have a better surface for my movements. moreover, a gym has all these facilities (stereo, showers, tools, ecc...) that a park have not, ofc.

so why a park? please consider I am moving over to Dublin, so park is the best place to start for me that i m new in town. i'd love to have a gym, and i will definitely need one soon, or at least a covered place, cause middle/end of september it is not possible to train in a park anymore (at least in Dublin). i am working on it :D.

consider as well that in the future i want the course to be as cheap as possible, and gym is the most expensive solution actually (even if i always fund some way the decrease courses' cost in a gym). again, i am working on it.

finally, now that u have the overall point, let me answer your question. it is hard to explain easily what capoeira angola is. i would say that it is a fight, with exceptions. actually we use to say it is a game. to me, it is something very spiritual. said that, movement as the one you mentioned are not part of capoeira angola. they are performed sometimes, but for a show purpose than a actual fight movement. there are however other movements that might seem like a show when in fact them are an effective fight movement.

sorry for the long post. i hope that you have a better idea now.

hi. as stated in the previous post, i will try to keep the cost as low as possible, since i am not looking for a profit. as soon as we are in a park, the course will be free. i expect then 20/30 E per month to pay the rent of a training-place (i am not sure here about pricing though as i am new in dublin).

I'd love to try it out. Any idea in what parks you're going to do it?

    Hi.

Again, I am not sure, but I was thinking of St Stephen's Green or Merrion Square Park for central dublin. I have been thinking as well of Phoenix Park, even if it is not so central.

If you guys have any suggestions, please feel free to post that might help me a lot.

Note: as well if you want to be update on the course, please send me an email to the address in the first post (even if I will post here any news regarding the course).

theres a shopping mall in dublin 24 and its called the square,

many people from many places know where it is and theres a park just beside it.

    duno the name tho lol.

if you want students i think you should pick a popular park that every1 knows.

    I want to join btw!
I would love to try out, and if its fun ill keep doing it!
but i dont know where those parks you mentioned are

    Thanks all for your feedbacks!!!

Next week I will arrive (finally) in Dublin. I will have a go around the city, check some places (the one proposed from Crazi_Monkey21 and hunter164 as well) and I let you all guys know.

This is getting intresting, looking forward to start!

I'll post later on some information regarding capoeira angola.

    Muito axe'.

    Daniz,

Welcome to Ireland, and I wish you all the best with your new enterprise.

my suggestion for your location in Central Dublin would be inside Trinity College.

They have a large grassed area, it is enclosed from city and you will not get many uninformed people querying your activities.

They may allow you to put posters in the student union looking for people to train as well ....

I do not know who you need to talk to for permission to train, maybe start, and see how it goes.

    Thanks for the greeting!

I did think about Trinity College. I am just not sure if it is possible to do activity inside the college. I'll try to contact them though. Thanks for sharing this info!

I love Capoeira Angola, and have been playing it for the last 6 years. I've been organising small Angola weekend rodas in Dublin for the last couple of summers, so I've tried out lots of the flat spaces already, so heres what I think:0)

Iveagh gardens is best - though they will stop you from playing music if there are a lot of you. Stephens green is good and big, but again, they will stop music - its a law in dublin parks about people playing and being very noisy. However, we often manage rodas for at least an hour on a sunday afternoon without being thrown out (though not always). Trinity has got good spaces, but they do have security people who will make you leave both for playing music and for training at all (they have insurance worries). I know this is the case because it happened to me just this afternoon.

With the winter coming on training outside gets impractical, particularly after work because it's often pitch black by about 6pm. I hate the winters here, and I've looked around for outdoor hard ground but it's hard to find.

On a personal note I'm really looking forward to there being a new Angola player in town, and I'd love to come along to your classes

    Axe

    Jacare

D, the post (as you can see) has been reinstated.

Unfortunetly all your contact details have been deleted from the original post.

If you can't edit them (to put them back in) can you PM me the details and I'll do it for you.

Glad to see everything is resolved and best of luck with things.

    Hi guys!

    We are almost there! :D

So, Monday 17th August there will be a first class. The class will be in St. Patrick Green. The time will start at 6.30 pm, I'll be there at 6.15 pm.
Please, send me an email to dublin@nacao-zumbi.com (or PM here) if you are coming, so I will know who is actually coming. As well, I will reply back to you my telephone number, in case we don't find each other (you can send me yours if you want). Please do that.

If it rains, well, no problem, we should be repaired from the rain :D.

Down here you can find the meeting point. (the pointer is not too accurate, I'll check better today at the park. Any update I do, you'll get notified).

NB A big respect to Makikomi that helped a lot with this thread...

    **** IMPORTANT NOTE ****

I want this to be clear. This activity is without profit. I am not aiming to do any kind of profit here. If, in the future, you will need to pay a fee, this is will be for renting a place to train (or similar expenses).
