Hi all,Can a landlord enter an house and remove items while tenants are at work??The landlord wants to sell the house but had to give 28 days notice which tennants are happy to see out!!
He removed kitchen table and 2 armchairs as well as an internet router belonging to a tenant!!

    Surely not anywhere near legal??

Unless he had permission, that sounds like a trespass offence and a theft offence. The trespass may be a fuzzy area if you are renting separately.

I think have a word with the local garda station and then with the landlord. Tell the landlord that you have spoken to the garda and that if he doesn't sort things ASAP, you'll lodge a criminal complaint. Take no waffle from the landlord - you want a written apology and a committemtn he won't do it again (you also want compensation, but you might get better compensation from the PRTB.

Then lodge a complaint with the PRTB.

Feel free to talk to a solicitor at any point.

I was lookin up info on this stuff before and on the citizens info website it give loads of info on tenant and landlords rights!! If i rember correctly it does say on that, that the landlord has to give written notice to say he is coming to visit the house if its not written then its just notice i.e. a phonecall informing you he is coming, im fairly certain he cant go taking out the furniture either while ye are still living their. Be sure to check your contract and all that aswel just incase. My friend had issues with her landlord before and she went to the citizens info office in person and said they were very helpful. Thats all i can tell you!

Dozyart, if someone comes into your home and takes property without permission that's very unlikely to be legal. I'd report it to the cops pronto.
especially as you've a good hunch who the thief is.
