not offered job after work trial

Recently I travelled to the UK for a work trial. Did a 7 hour shift from 12 until 7 without a break.
At the end of the day I had a brief conversation with one member of staff about the hours I could work etc and was told I would be contacted by the end of the week with an indication of finalising start dates etc.
3 days later I was contacted by e-mail to say thanks for the trial shift- unfortunately your application has been unsuccessful this time.
What do you think about this? Is this totally out of order?
I have previous experience and the trial went well to the best of my knowledge plus the staff knew I was travelling out of my way to do this.
( by the way the job is for cafe staff which I was going to be doing for the duration of the summer and part time once I started back in college over there.)
Let me know what you think! Has anybody had a similar experience where they feel they were unfairly exploited?

It sounds like they got a free 7 hours of work from you. At least they emailed you the PFO and you're not left wondering.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.
