Out of the way places to Visit While Interrailing

Heading off interrailing next week, with a one month pass.
We're starting off in Switzerland for the first 5 days or so, then off to Eastern Europe, for a few weeks finally going through Germany and then to France. We're going to play it by ear and don't have any specific plans of where we're going to visit. We have an idea of some of the cities we'd like to see, but the beauty of the interrail pass is the freedom it offers to visit smaller towns as well as big cities.

So, I was looking for suggestions for small towns, and interesting places in Eastern Europe, Austria, Belgium, Germany or France that are reachable by rail. Ideally along the main routes, but not exclusively. Ones that would be worth spending a day or a few hours at.

    Any suggestions are welcome.

We were in a deadly little village in Slovakia called Zdiar, there's a great hostel there called ginger monkey. The place is great to just relax and go for walks around the mountains and stuff! They have a deadly dog too! It's about a 45 minute bus ride from Zakopane in Poland!

Cool. That's the sort of thing I'm looking for. Little small places you'd never hear of otherwise, full to the brim of beauty and character.

Good stuff. Anyone know anywhere worth checking out in Romania? I've heard Transylvania is worth checking out.
We've got a good 14 hour train journey through it to Bucharest. Might as well break it up on the way.

if your in switzerland guttanen and wengen are gorgeous villages in the mountains. we got trains and local buses to them from basel and the trip was amazing in itself.

If your in south east france in the pyrenees head up on the little yellow train from villefranche de conflet. its an amazing trip even if you dont get off the train but if you do then the gorges de caranca is a must. you walk for about 2 hours and its the scariest thing ever but brilliant. theres also a gite owned by a cool belgian who has the best stories from living basically in the middle of the mountains for 20 years. its my favorite place, i go every year almost. its all in the rough guide in the section near perpignan but you have to search i think its only about a line or two!
