    Hi,
I'm in Dublin. I would like to have tv on my laptop. I went to two shops in Dublin where there were USB TV Tuner Sticks but in the two shop sellers told me that the Usb sticks don't work in Dublin. I don't understand why (analogue, digital, dvb-t, ...?).
So I would like to know if somebody in Dublin manages to have tv on laptop with usb tv stick and what kind of tv stick it is.

    Thanks in advance

    Agurdregy

I got one of these, http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.8325 , and use a program called AltDVB (freeware) with CoreAVC ($15), and it was working fine. I haven't used it recently, but talk on the Tech/Cable & Digital TV/Terrestrial forum suggests that DVB-T transmissions are showing test cards at the moment - maybe that's what they meant in the shops (though I'd say, from experience of shops and this technology, it was more down to ignorance).

With the right software, these devices should be able to deal with any DVB-T signal (it's not the same as UK DVB-T boxes that won't work here, as we're apparently going with H.264/MPEG4, whereas they use MPEG2). There may be USB analogue tuners (and I think there may be ones with both, a hybrid), but once you've seen the difference between analogue and digital, you'll be sold. If you got a hybrid one, you could use it for analogue now and digital when/if the digital signals come back. You might be better off waiting to see what happens with the signals first though.
