LED Amber Dash light

    Hi all,

In my car, which i use as a safety car at the various road rallies and bike rallies in the southwest, i have a amber led dash light hardwired in for a clean look. Seeing as i do use it quite alot i thought i would hardwire it in and drill it on.. Now for the fun bit..
Went up to dublin and got pulled over in the city..apparently somebody called me in as suspicious as they saw the light on the dash(not on)..told the guard the story why i have it..even though he just had to look on the front or back for the sticker "SAFETY CAR" displayed.. He let me go, sound out fella, then later on in the day in a different area i was followed by the undercover unit, followed me till i parked at my destination, asked me 101 questions of the various things i had in my car and the aerials what they were for..then he said that if it didnt come down i would keep getting pulled over and if unlucky enough by a traffic unit which are very strict he said...
now my question.. As far as i can tell from the road traffic act there are no laws about a flashin amber light from the inside and only used when needed at rallies. Why do they keep pulling me over??I mean i know it looks like the ones out of the DS cars but with all the stickers on the outside of the car you'd know i aint trying to impersonate a cop.
All feedback and comments appreciated people!

Note the vehicles allowed to be equipped with an amber light.

You can have any light you want in your car.......once it isnt operating.

Any flashing light on a car is illegal im afraid. (Tractors going around with flashing amber lights are illegal....but a good idea hense why they are not stopped)

If your using the light for safety car purposes on a closed road race or track then you'll have no problem but if you use it for nothing then you could be in trouble.

Flashing amber generally means warning in this country....a meaning that was generated by the public (did you know the customs and excise lights are amber??)

In relation to being pulled over if you have radios in your car with a whip out the roof and a light on the dash then members are going to get suspisious. Thats just the nature of the job. As in why would a private car have a radio (or scanner) and why have a dash mounted light.

as you use the light on the closed road and not the public road you should be fine..

Once the road is closed it is now under ownership of the motor club so you can do what you like on it.. even use red / blue lights.

Once you dont use it on the public road you will be fine.. Id like to see them bring you to court over it..

ps Get MSI involved.. they could talk to the gardai for ya?

i have an amateur radio license and have a two way radio mounted in the car with a longish whip on the rear of the car, practically every check point i encounter i get questioned over it, ive been honest and told them its amateur radio but that just confuses them so i call it a cb now, if i got genuine questions about it i wouldnt mind but i get the smart "oh your listening to us now are you" and they key their radio to see if it comes across mine , full of their own self importance i tell them there is more interesting people to listen to and on my way i go:D
