To the best of my knowledge Joeseph Dowling for the 400m.As for the relay im not sure;Patrick Maher as hes goin for 400H,maybe the 800m runner Cathal O Connor. If they were to bring specific relay runners id imagine Paul Scanlon would be first in line.

If this is the case, I think that it is a disgrace on behalf of the AAI as we should be sending full strength teams to these internationals and if we don't send proper relay athletes then we are not doing this. When athletes are this age who have achieved a reasonable amount of success and have shown potential, then we should be throwing international vests at them to try and keep them in the sport. We also need to try and keep as much depth in events such as the 100m/400m so that we have a strong pool of athletes to choose from for future competitions.
Also if you look at it we have brought athletes specifically for relay for the past number of years, so this is obviously for economic reasons. How much are we spending on legal fees???

If you are to look at the 4x400m
Joseph Dowling (yes should definitely be picked)
Cathal O' Connor (he seems to be more of an 800m runner who moves up as he also won the 1500m and the 200ms/c in nationals)
Patrick Maher (yes is a credible selection, 2nd u18 400m)
and then there is obviously someone else who is going for another event too.

Then we have those who haven't been picked:
Paul Scanlon (cant see why he hasn't been picked after his excellent results at EYOF)
David MacAoghain (won the u18 title in a slower time than the top two in the u17 race, but you can only beat who you're against and he won by almost a second?)
So is this the first signs of our young athletes being affected by the AAI's financial/internal difficulties????
    /Rant over/

Relax. You seem to be basing a big rant damning the AAI on the basis of a post that started with "as for the relay I'm not sure". Wait until the team's announced.

    Exactly!
Chillax hurdler 2009! Have your rant if you are not happy when the finalised team is announced.I was only speculating as stated in relation to the relays.
I would agree that the strongest teams should be sent though regardless of them qualifying indivually. It would give us some very decent teams.
    Here would be mine-
    u18 4x100m-O Halloran/Cathain/Whelan/Kavanagh
    u18 4x400m-Dowling/Scanlon/McAogain/Maher
    u16 4x100m-Lawlor/Wilson/Halley/Walshe

    u18 4x100m-Healy/Mcmanus/Mooney/Murray
    u18 4x300m-Mooney/Lanigan/Courtney/Neville
    u16 4x100m-Lavin/Moynihan/Giles Doran/Kiely

Sorry lads if I have come across a bit dramatic!!! It's just this is something that I feel very strongly about as I coached an athlete a number of years back who was around this age and who was deprived of a relay spot as he was not needed for an individiual event and subsequently quit when he turned junior to follow his football career (which didn't go very far) and I wonder what might have been if this athlete had gotten a taste of international athletics! I just don't want to see this type of thing happening again.
I probably read into what you said a bit to much and misinterprided it a bit!!!
And agreed I overreacted a bit!!
    :o:D
P.S. I agree we could have some mean relay teams out there!
