    Hi All ,

Thought i might meantion even tho the ISS isnt Visible , they still pass over Ireland , like tonight at Start 19:00 for about 9 minutes till it fades in the east , and again at 20:35 if you have a radio scanner you can hear them on it :) Might be silent at times when they arent speaking !!

    Check it out here

I don't have a reciever/transmitter (unless a plain ole FM radio will do). I hear you can transmit messages to the crew? Have you ever done it? Could you record what you hear (if anything) and upload it?

    jumpguy how ay doing

Hope your well ? You need a TX ( Transmitter) to send radio signals to the ISS and that type of TX requires a licence , some of the folk on the ISS may have a ham licence and therefore can use the radio equipment on board to QSO ( have voice contact ) with other people on earth other than mission HQ or the ground stations ( these people have to have a ham licence too ) There are several HAM bands , 144mhz ( 2mtres) etc but you need a licence and a ham rig with these bands on it to chat with the lads on the ISS , and to answer your last question ,yes i know people who have qso`d with the shuttle and the ISS and have QSL cards ( a card ) like a postcard with details of the time , frequency ,date etc of the contact they had on it etc

Its a lot more detailed than that , thats the quick version lol

Having said all that , you can hear them on a radio scanner tho , without a licence

Thanks for that! I'm grand thanks, how're you getting on? If you hear something on your scanner, is it possible to upload it? Or is that difficult/not possible/need certain equipment? I know for one I'd find it very interesting! :D

    Hiya Lord Lucan :)

    Nice Nick ha ,
Yes , so very true , i think we all learn something new everyday , thank you for the reply , appreciate it

Anyone can get a scanner fairly easily ,

    http://www.cqcomms.com/products_scanners.htm

Not promoting this store in any way , just using it as an example ,but the 3rd one down the list
@ 49 euro covers the 144mhz (2metre) ham band which the ISS transmits on ,
off the top of my head i think its 148.800 / 145.850mhz and the rubber duck or whip antenna standing out in the clear away from buildings is sufficent to hear the ISS .Maybe even indoors while its overhead if the signal is strong enough .

The 49 euro one is cheap , its manual tuning , ie turn the knob and tune , the dearer scanners have digital readout , you pay for what you get ;-)

Hope it helps a little for those interested in getting a scanner to hear the ISS and SS !!

Honestly, after listening to those convos I feel more like investing in radio equipment than a bloody telescope. Thanks a million Stargate.
As far as a license goes, is it difficult to get one? I know you need a license for general broadcasting but I never would've thought you'd require one for talking to the ISS.
