After many months of "final" meetings, "final" constituency drinks, and "final" national executive functions, the Progressive Democratss are on the cusp of having the party's name scrubbed off the Party register.

Im sure im not the only one who laments their failure to stop Bertie and Cowen's spending binge, but has great respect for their many economic achievements, the progress they made in Irish society, their contribution to the European Project, and their work, and rhetoric on Northern Ireland.

It was incredible to be part of such an organisation, which achieved so much, with so few people, in so little time. The anti intellectualism of Irish politics, and their ability to shoot from the hip (particularly Michael McDowell) caught up with them, and this has been to the detriment of Irish society. We need a party who stands up to vested interests, and a party who makes coalition uncomfortable for the senior party in Government.
