Stolen Bike

My bicycle was stolen from my apartment block parking lot in Cork city yesterday. It was a brand new Trek 4600D which I had bought only 3 days ago. The lock was cut by two guys, I can see them on CCTV scoping the place out and keeping watch, unfortunately as cctv usually is, its completely blurry and completely useless.
I realise this is probably a relatively common occurrence, and the garda really can't do much for me, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what I could do to increase the chances to getting it back. I know my chances are very slim, but I'm very frustrated at the moment so doing anything would help.

what sort of lock was it?
do you have the serial number? keep an eye on buy and sell and gumtree is about all i can suggest

It was one of those flexible metal wire locks. Ironically right after I bought one of my friends pointed out how easy they are to cut, and that people walk around town carrying wire cutters for just that purpose.
Unfortunately I don't have the serial number, although I did make a few modifications to it, so I probably would recognise it if I saw it. Although I know that doesn't establish ownership, it might count for something.

I will definitely keep an eye on gumtree and buy and sell, and I also plan on going into pawn shops regularly just in case they pawn it there. Thanks for the advice.

Just a question - can a bike be insured ? Or added to house insurance... about to get a new bike too, so just wondering if its possible.

yes it can, and it usually covers bikes stolen away from the house too. costs more to add it to the policy though usually

These are notorious places for bikes to be robbed. The thieves can work unhindered for hours(not that it takes hours).

If the bike is anyway good take it up to your appartment and lock it to something in your appartment.

Locks and insurance are covered here - http://wiki.boards.ie/wiki/Category:Cycling
