As far as I know they are illegal for sale on standard SUV. It is however fine for the dealer to fit them.

Thanks, but is it legal to drive around with one on?
Are they illegal to use everyday bolted to the front of your vehicle under Irish law?

I'm not sure about the legality but every commercial SUV I know has some from or other of them attached so if there is a rule its not enforced.

I think the manufactures got around this by redesigning them and calling the A-Bars. The "Bull-Bar" used to be the full with of the vechile, covering both headlights. The "A-Bar" only covers the front grill.
