ryanair fly to zadar croatia and bratislava in slovakia so they're the 2 places im looking into , im going with 1 other friend so has anyone got any recommendations of hostels, i want to go cheap but not dingy, just something clean and good location, pool would be a bonus. is a week too long to spend in one of these locations ? or should we consider splitting our time between 2 locations?

sorry not sure if this should be in the youth travel forum??

your best options in eastern europe is to rent an apartment for a few days, when i was in zadar in april an apartment about a mile from the city centre cost us approx €30 per night, included 2 double beds, bed/couch and a full kitchen, no pool though :( lovely place, really clean

if you intend to see everything in zadar and the nearby vicinity a week is about right, there are 5 national parks withink a 1-2 hr drive of zadar, you need a full day to see each park

Home stays are usual for accomodation in ex-Yugoslavia aswell but they can vary on quality and location.

I would split my time between two locations.
If you are flying into Zadar then Split or Dubronik are good centres.
many tourists travel up and down the coast and spend some time on the islands aswell.
