Opinions needed here and pros and cons would be appreciated.

I am 23 and recently graduated. I have a graduate job starting in October.
I originally had been offered a placement in the UK but this morning I was offered the Dublin placement as well. I am very confused as to which to take as I had been operating under the assumption of moving to the UK.

Could people give me pros and cons please?

Not much info to go on there

Where in the UK? The cost of living will vary quite a lot depending on where you would be based.

Will you get any allowance for moving your stuff over? Any rent allowances in the UK?

Will you have more career progression opportunities in the UK or Dublin office?

Higher salary here but a higher cost of living. The locations on offer are Birmingham and Manchester.I've lived as a student for the last 4 years so I wouldn't be moving that much stuff over.

Career progression is pretty similar but the team in Ireland is smaller. There would be an opportunity to transfer but to transfer out is a lot easier than it is to transfer into Ireland.

I've not been to Manchester, and I've only been in Birmingham briefly - but I thought it was a ****hole.

That would make it an easier choice for me then.

Cost of living in both Brum and Manchester is way way cheaper than over here, just had family from the North West over here for a few days on hols and they could not believe the difference in the cost of living!

OP - If you need any more info on Manchester PM me, would be the better choice I would think as the place has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years...

the cost of living are + to UK but depends on the company -as closer to the headquarter as better - if you are "career driven"...many factors .some people would say - follow your heart.

    Everywhere outside of London anyway.

Outside of London and Edinburgh the rest of the UK is cheaper to live in than Dublin. Certain things are more expensive in the UK, but I'd expect to be able to live in either Birmingham or Manchester for less than Dublin.

It's hard to give solid advice with so little information, but I'd suggest that you decide which locations you'd be happy to live in then weigh up the quality of job and career prospects you'd get from each. Spending a couple of years in the right position after you graduate can really help get your career get moving.

I am agonising over the whole decision.

Originally (as in when I got the job offer in February) I had only been offered the UK option. Problem being that they don't let me know which location they would place me in until Tuesday. It was only Thursday that they offered me the Dublin placement as well.

Career-wise each location has its benefits because in Ireland because the market is small instead of it being field based its all head office based, with more access to senior management. The UK has a more field based role and I would then get to know the market very well, which would stand to me career-wise.

Salaries are comparable after taxes and levies. Some perks are better here.

Personally and professionally I am torn between the two.

It sounds like a tough call alright. Just do up a big list with the pros and cons of all the locations and see if that helps.

If take home salaries are comparable, the chances are that you will be much better off living in the UK. Get as much info on Manchester and Birmingham and see if you think you would like to live there though.

Flip a coin then. Or if that horrifies you, work out why it horrifies you and make the decision based on that factor.

And in the places where its a bit more expensive, you get your monies worth unlike Ireland!

You say youre 'career driven' yes? Then Id move to the UK for obvious reasons.

But I would consider personal reasons over anything else. My first 6 months moving over to UK I found very difficult, but it was due to my personal wellbeing and bringing some emotional baggage over with me rather than anything circumstantial.

Wow that was deep lol :o

Or flip a coin, and if you decide to go best of three based on the result, then you really wanted the other place.

Dublin or Birmingham? Is there really any competition? Dublin by far.
