Synching music to iPhone

I bought my first iPhone yesterday in a fit of madness!

I have a lot of music on my computer which I store in Media Monkey. I have a number of mp3 players which can synch to this program (not ipods). What do I have to do to change the music files that I've now put in iTunes to a format that will let me synch to my iPhone?

If iTunes actually imported the music then it should just sync;I don't think iTunes will import music files that aren't compatible with the iPod/iPhone. However, try right clicking on the music and selecting convert for iPod/iPhone.

    Thanks! Wasn't doing it properly!

Another question - Am I limited to the iPhones sounds for text alerts/phone calls? have some great ones I used on my old phone but can't see how to import them to use them. Am I stuck with the limited iPhone ones?

You can change the phone call ringtones but not the text message ones.

True, very true. You can have the trendy tune when you get a text message and my iPhone will give me the rest of the world. ;)

BTW, the iphone isn't the only phone to do internet & email. I had email, internet, cut and paste, changeable ringtones on a Siemens phone about 8 years ago...

My point is that the iphone is let down by so many little things that would be easily resolved. They concentrate on the big picture but often miss the details along the way...

My old phone could do those things too, loads of people's phones could. But those features were so poorly implemented that they were just irritating to use and no one used them. The problem with previous phones (Nokias in particular) was that they were obsessed with minor details & ticking off boxes on spec sheets and they completely ignored the big picture: it's not what a phone does, it's how it does it. This is what separates good phones from bad.

I'd just put it in iTunes and let it manage it - much more hassle-free.
