Tyres and Brakes for a '08 Pajero

    All,

My brother is looking to get 4 new tyres for his 3.2 pajero but wants to stick with the Bridgestone Duellers that came with it from new.

IMO there pretty cr*p tyres but anyway, not my call.

Does anyone know where to get a good price for these (256/65/R17), also what suggestions for 50/50 tyres i.e. better off road grip for pulling trailers out of the bog etc.

Also he wants to get new brake pads aswell.

I've had a look at EBC Greenstuf pads on the net and can get them for 110 sterling for front and back axles.

It would be great if anyone has any comments or suggestions as to getting the best price on these.

    Thanks

    Pat

Best tyres are probably BFGoodrich All Terrains. If he wants to stick to Bridgestone, try Dueler 693 AT or 694 AT

General Grabber AT2, Goodyear Wrangler AT/R and Copper ST are all supposed to be good. Try Camskill Tyres for prices and then get your local man to match them. http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m26b0s0p0

Only thing that will get you out of a bog is Mud Terrains and a winch, probably not what your brother actually needs!

Can't comment on Greenstuf, supposed to be good. I only use known makes like Girling on my 110, there is a lot of rubbish around.

Replaced 4 on my Landcruiser 120, exact same tyre, €560 fitted.

Sounds like your brother is driving the living hole out of that Pajero! I second the recommendation for BF Goodrich AT's. I put them on my Pajero recently and I see a big difference when pulling a trailer in a field or rough conditions. On-road handling isn't as good, but you'll get used to that and adapt your driving to suit.

I like the Bridgestone A/T's myself. He must cover serious ground to need a tyre change on an 08 yock already?

Do you really need the greenstuff pads?

I would have thought it was overkill myself...

    Yeah,

He has nearly 30k miles on the clock. Would it being an auto make any difference?

    Slidey,

Thats the thing. Don't really have a clue but I have to say that for the money they're pretty good value. EBC do standard pads too that are a lot cheaper but for both the brakes and the tyres is it worth cutting corners (god knows the bro will do that in the effing jeep alright:D)

Well I have only considered uprating the pads for the very first time and only because I was braking from, well lets just say a considerable speed, and I started to great brake fade.

You would really need to be dogging a jeep something serious to need greenstuff pads. It is also worth noting that they wont last as long as they are a softer compound.

He's done a set of tyres in 30k as well? What's he been doing, regulary bouncing off kerbs? That's pretty bad, I expect to get at least 50k out of a set of BFGs and have some tread left. My 110 got it's first new set of tyres just before I bought it with 75k (miles, not km) on it and the originals were the factory fiited BFG ATs.

Those Bridgestone duellers have a very soft sidewall and I guess on a Pajero they roll and wear the edges especially if used for high speed cornering.
I second the BFG AT, they are serious tyres for wear, you should get at least 50k out of them and more if you don't abuse them.
They aren't to everyones taste though, they don't ride as nicely as others I have had.
Hankook Dynapro HP23 would be my next on the list.

    Hey lads,

    Thanks for the info.

Was talking to the bro again yesterday and looks like he's going to get the tyres up the north, Newry I think. £110 a corners fitted and balanced, so it'll be fairly hard to beat that. Also he's getting the brakes (front and back) for about £120.

The Paj he has is an auto, which might explain some of the wear on the brake discs and tbh he's probably a bit paranoid;) about the tyres. I haven't seen them but I'd say he could probably get a bit further out of them.

    Anyhow,

I dont have the details of the garage in Newry yet but when I get them I'll forward them on if anyone is interested.

Just another example of the good old Rip off Republic eh?

Patzer, what are you talking about rip off Ireland, You brother is going to drive to Newry to get 4 tyres fitted and a cost of £ 110 stg each, the vat rate in NI is 15 % so the cost is £ 95.65 + vat each

General Motors in his first reply said "Replaced 4 on my Landcruiser 120, exact same tyre, €560 fitted. Dave McCann Blanchardstown"

the VAT rear in ROI is 21.5% so his tyres cost € 460.90 + VAT or € 115.22 + vat each, at todays exchange rate (0.867) the tyres in newry cost € 110.32 each, so you will save € 4.90 per tyre, and be out at least € 40 in diesel for the drive to Newry.

    Trackcar,

thanks for the response. I don't understand why you are quoting the ex-VAT prices though. Allowing for the Sterling conversion my brother will fork out just over €500 for the tyres in Newry, If he could get them in Blanchardstown for €560 he's still saving €50 which he can put towards the cost of the brake pads. He'll be coming from Kildare and I doubt if it would cost him €40 on diesel (even in the PAJ) to drive from Blanch to Newry and back (220km approx).

What is really annoying though is that the local tyre crowd in Kildare who shall remain nameless;) were quoting €130 each plus €20 a corner for fitting and balancing.

BTW he's going to get the brake pads in Newry too, which are a bit cheaper than down here too but don't have exact figures.

If he is VAT registered he can claim back the VAT, If not get the invoice made out to a friend/relative who is VAT registered and get them to claim back the VAT.

I took if you/your brother were from wexford, sorry for the mistake
