Death Pension

Hi,
I will recieve a death benifit 4 my son who was killed in a car accident, (he had a pension)I've got lots of bills to pay with this, e.g. funeral, grave etc and I want to give my Mom most of the money, shes a widow will this affect her payments?

Hi there. If your mum's payments are means tested and she was going to put the money you gave her in the bank then it might effect her payment alright if it pushed her over the threshold.

If her payment is based on contributions it would not be effected but other things like the medical card and soon it looks like the household benefits package will also have lower thresholds.

Don't forget to check out the amounts for gift tax too.
