Driving insured but no disk yet, ok?

Got the car insured on UK plates with AXA, getting Irish plates tomorrow, did not get the insurance disk yet, but I have policy number and also my other AXA policy (The full Traffic Act document) for my other car, which states that I can drive another car.

Technically I know I can drive, I am insured, but if stopped by Gardai (Don't know why, I always got stopped, especially by female officers...), will this be enough, my yellow post it (literally it is...), with my Axa policy number? I know I will get the disk probably Friday or next Monday...

It should be, tell them you just bought the car and have not got the disk yet, they will normally give you 10 days to produce it in a garda station. Did your policy expire on the old car or have you the cert for the old car, i'd keep that in the car also, as it shows you are in the middle of a policy.

Technically it isn't as there are two separate requirements - having insurance and displaying a disc. That said, I think you'd want to be really unlucky to be charged.

You have, by law ten days from the authenication of the disc to put it in the window. The date of authenication is printed on your insurance certificate.

So dont worry, explain to the Garda and he will make a demand for you to produce your certificate of insurance or exemption at a station of your choice within ten days.

happened to me, garda stopped and issued warning to show the disc to local garda, it took 4 weeks to get the disc from one of insurance brokers, local garda just shrugged the sholder, no problems

It's no problem. You initially have 10 days, after that the Gardai usually show common sense
