guided cycling trips

    hiya,

After a self guided foreign cycling trip last year, I'm checking out a guided one this time. Anybody been on an Irish Cycling Safari's one? Their website shows they have an excellent selection of destinations, but I'm a bit worried that not much cycling takes place on them.

Of course I could always choose their most difficult course.

Generally, I always thought that trips which require you to bring your bike would be the best, liek the most challenging (in as far as they are non-competitive) like 80km per day.

I reckon anything less than 30km per day just isn't challenging. Any comments?

I know some other guys like OnYourBike specialise in tougher stuff... Not cheap though.

thanks blorg, but no, ... I need something compatible with the taking of wine (ehem, one glass) at lunch time and post-lunch snooze.

I mentioned 80km, that'd be kinduv the maximum. 9-13hrs: 45 km, then 16-19hrs 35 km. That sort of thing. Please, no scoffing.

Price-wise, bit surprised at that, quite steep. I'm sure there's a reason for it though.

used to work for ICS and the listed distance is often the minimum the guides on the tours should know additional routes that will add to the tour.
Very good company to go with as your in a group yet have individual freedom.
    Enjoy the experience

If you have any questions re: just send me a pm

I went on two trips with ICS. They are a very well organised company and would definitely recommend them but you would neeed to contact them to find the right destination to match the amount of miles you want to reach each day. Would you consider doing the dublin to paris trip in september for the Irish Hospice Foundation charity? You would have to raise a good bit of money but you are absolutely garanteed to get the high mileage each day!!!! Just back from last weeks one! Had a great time. ICS run that too. Would highly recommend.
