    Folks,

Im getting married in Spain next year -will be there for a week - there'll be a few of us that play golf, that will be there for the week, so we might try to get 2 or 3 rounds in!!
Im getting married in a town called Nerja, which is approx 45mins East of Malaga Airport!

Im sure there are pleny, but can anyone recommend any really nice golf courses, in or around the Nerja area - would be willing to drive maybe 30 - 40 mins to get a nice course!
Also, if you know if the courses rent sets of clubs as some of the lads mightn't want the hassle of bringing their set.

    Cheers!!

Just back from my brother-in-law's wedding in Nerja. They all played a game of golf there the day before I arrived and said the course was decent. They could rent clubs too. About 40 minutes on the malaga side of Nerja. Will get the name of that course for you.

If you head back towards Malaga from Nerja, about 10/15 minutes near a large shopping centre, there is a golf course to the left (toward the coast). I was there in 2003 and played it, and it was a fairly decent track from what I can remember. I can't remember the name of the course, but you can't miss it from the main road. Green fee and buggy hire worked out about €50 a head. There's also loads of courses heading back in toward Malaga and the surrounding towns. If playing a big name course interests you, and you're prepared to drive the extra distance and fork out a few extra quid, Valderrama is out towards Cadiz.

Course was called Baviera. Website here where you can book tee times etc. It's the closest one to Nerja I'm told being about 30 minutes away.

Valderrama - sounds like a plan!!

Any idea how much it is to play?? Will be there at the end of April - probably high season rates!!

Don't know what it costs now, but it was over 200 quid when I was there in 2003, and they won't even entertain you without a handicap cert. There was also a handicap limit (22 or 24).
It's certainly a fantastic course, and it was in immaculate condition, but it's hard to tell anyone if it's really worth it or not. Particularly when there are some lovely courses within an hours drive with green fees at a fraction of what they charge.

Valderrama is about 2 hours from Nerja. Mijas which is about an hour drive from Nerja has 2 decent courses with Los Lagos being marginally better. Mijas is next to Fuengirola. You can rent Callaway clubs for €30. If you slow play on Spanish courses you will encountered by a staff member on buggy who patrol the course to make sure everyone is flying along nicely. So expect to confronted at some point.

    Thanks lads,
Can forget out Valderrama!! Some of the lads aint got a handicap and feck that for 300 bills - better spent in the bar after a round :p

Yeah i knew about 1 course at Mijas - as i looked at a hotel there for the reception - course looked OK!! Will look into them.
    Cheers!!

La Cala is good value..and is near Mijas.

They have some great deals there at the moment.

35 Euro for a round which includes the buggy.

    FBD own it.

Baviera is fine. Is a 20 minute Drive from Nerja and is enjoyable. Depends when you are there though. It is really hot during July and August

You could check out www.golf-service.com they have all the areas courses and green fee rates, you can search by map for ones close to where you are staying. Btw, played El Parador a while ago, it's a good option if you have some hackers in the group, if not there are more interesting options.

If your playing La Cala play the America course, its by far the best, the other 2 are walt disney.

I would recommend playing Torrequebrada, played it in March and it was in fantastic nick. We got a twilight, play after 3pm for 50 quid (normal price 95). I would also recommend Santana, its a beauty, reminds me of Adare in Limerick, but with sun. The Mijas courses are ok, played both, greens are like billard tables and almost impossible to hold, but reasonable.

    I'd recommend these:

    Near Marbella:
    Monte Mayor
    Los Naranjos
    Atalya Old (and New)

    Near to Malaga:
    Torrequebrada
    Mijas (Lagos and Olivos)

Monte Mayor id the pick of the bunch closley followed by Tarrequebrada.
    Enjoy :)
