Ok this stuff has been going on to long now and is starting to get under my skin so there is a few things i would like to clear up. Now to be clear i am not speaking on behalf of Tom, I am a close friend of his and know the full story of what has gone on so feel its time people heard the back story.

Was Tom dropped from the UFC for calling out Dan Hardy?
Firstly Tom did not call out Hardy(full story further down). It is a contract stipulation in alot of promotions that fighters can be released on the back of a loss. The UFC had just signed alot of fighters and were releasing alot of fighters. That same month Rich Clementi, Luigi Fiorvanti, Matt Arroyo, Nate Mohr, Reese Andy, Derek Downey, Mike Patt, Christian Wellisch, Eddie Sanchez and Troy Mandaloniz were all released off the back of losses.

Did Tom call out Dan Hardy?
No, Toms blog consisted of him being rang weekly to see what was going on that week and then being wrote by a blogger(as most people in the public eye’s blogs are done) using direct quotes. This was a miss quote. Tom was asked would he like to fight Hardy to which he responded that he wants to fight the best guys in the world so of course he would like to fight Hardy hes a great fighter. This was turned into Tom ‘calling him out’ which was never the case. I know for a fact Tom has nothing but respect for Hardy.

Is there bad blood between Tom and the UFC due to the Hardy Fiasco?
    Simple answer, No.

In a recent interview Tom was quoted as saying in a year he wants to be champion...
Again another fantasticly wrote journalistic piece....Tom was asked about his future both immediate and long term. Tom spoke of his immediate plans to fight some more to get more experience in the next year to make his way back into the UFC. He was asked about long term goals which he spoke about not wanting to be in the UFC just to be able to say im a UFC fighter but to one day go on to be a champion....(definitly not within a year). Tom was also quoted saying he had earned 300e to date and that he will go on to earn a million. Money/fight purse’s were not mentioned or discussed at all during this interview.

    Whats next for Tom
Tom is training hard and is also working with one of the best strenght and conditioning coaches going to ensure he is ready for his next fight. He will fight this september on a UK show called Ultimate Force in the Doncaster Dome, sept 12th. Cant remember who he is fighting but ill find out.

I just wanted to get this stuff cleared up, it doesnt bother Tom but it really bothers me to see people turn so quickly without knowing all the facts, since when do people believe everything they read in the paper/online?

Anyone that knows Tom will back me up when i say that Tom is only in this sport for the love of it so i hope this clears it up for some people.

Tom has always wanted to make his family, friends and fans proud regardless if he fights on cage of truth in dublin or the UFC and that wont change!

    Good post, well said.

I was the one who raised the issue of the NOTW interview, but it was more aimed at the pice of journalism as opposed to Tom. I met Tom a few times and he's a very genuine guy, I think most people on here think that.
However, Ireland being a nation of begrudgers, a lot of people I know are delighted he lost in the UFC, the attitude of the couch potato. That's to their detriment, not Tom's
I wish him well in the future, if he can put a few wins together he could be back in the UFC next year.

As for the NOTW peice, can he not raise that point or perhaps guillotine the reporter ?

Anyone who knocks Tom is an idiot, he's 1 of the nicest guys you could meet and always has time to say hi to everyone-Tom is a gentleman and a very good fighter who is only young too, he's good to watch and thats why he'll be back in the ufc, its only a matter of time. Best of luck tom, and fair play for sticking up for him tommy.

You qouted the whole of the original post and apparently failed to read at least the first paragraph!.

Are you really confused, trying to stir it or doubt 'Perfect Fits' word?.

i can't believe anyone would talk about Tom Egan like he was acting like some primadona!

The guy is a proper gent and not only a great ambassador for Irish MMA but MMA as a whole!

if i was his agent/pr guy and was acting on behalf of Tom i would have had his manager release a proper press release to the right channels and would have done a proper interview with Tom so you could hear it from him yourself, but anyways back on track . .

True gent, one of the soundest young guys I around.

That NOTW artical is just not Tom's style. Tom will come back stronger for all this crap and I'm really looking forward to seeing him in action again.

bleedin meeja always misquotiifying people. Tom can't say he wants to earn a million, Kimo can't say he's dead, what's the world coming to?

I always had a lot of time for Tom.A really nice guy.Truthfully I thought he made the jump into the UFC a bit too quickly but who on this board wouldnt jump at the chance if the biggest show in the mma world came knocking?Regardless of that...from what I know of him,he never seemed the sort of guy to come out with the remarks contributed to him by the press and on some forums.

You do realise the irony of coming online for your little rant about Tom after telling us we shouldn't believe everything we read online!?!;)

Personnaly i think you're wasting your time even bothering to post about him. As you say your a friend of his (not managment or Tom himself) so you by default you are just another faceless voice on the net so why should anyone listen to you.
Anyone who has had the pleasure of talking with Tom or any one he calls friend or family will know he's a genune, stand up guy with the manners of a saint. I've only spoke to him a handfull of times and he has been curtious to a fault. The neigh sayers will always be there to jump on peoples backs so i say let them at it.
Tom is a real nice guy and the people who matter know this so don't let it get to you Perfect Fit, just sit back and be happy in the knowledge that you have a friend like Tom and you will get to see him compete again and again, regardless of what anyone says on here or any other media format.

Why should he just accept what people say when its wrong and it sticks?

He does not need to be defended to me as i know he's a genuine guy, but to people who dont know him and may think he's a tool then its refreshing for them to see what people who know him or only spoke to him once even think of him.

The UFC hardly paid him just 300 (or less)?

No id say he got about 3000 USD for the fight give or take..and yeah all the bad mouthing is getting a bit old, and mostly just jealousy at the end of the day

DrunkenMonkey...as far as im concerned Perfect Fit is NOT just another faceless name on the net...i would take Perfect fits words regarding Tom as gospel.....Like above all the negative comments are from people with a bit of jealousy about them, fair play Tom Egan.. true gent!!

The nature of these things is that the journo gets a quote from Tom, and then spices it up knowing that he'll just be happy to have the publicity and won't ask for a retraction and most likely won't turn down the opportunity to have the journo write about him again as he's not a major player.

Unfortunately Tommy, to most people because you're a mate of Tom's they'll just assume you're too far to the other side and won't believe you either. I think just leaving well enough alone and stop drawing attention to Tom would be the best thing to allow him to keep doing his work out of the spotlight and start making column inches where it counts. There's been too much talk about him considering he hasn't fought in 6 months and topics like this don't really help.
