    What was the objection?

    hello
sorry about the capitals my computor skills are somewhat ....

we are a pistol and rifle club based in n.ireland
we identified a disused quarry and leased it for 20 years
we shoot at present 100 meters c/f rifle and 25/50 meter pistol
    pp1 pp2 1500 bulls eye
we had a problem with a past chairman from a club based in donegal
we applied for planning permission for the range to develop the sport
and low and behold were objected to by this ex chairman on a number of grounds regarding heavy metals and watertable pollution .
low and behold the planners took on quite a lot of this and have now set up an inquiry to the use of lead on private /club ranges with emphasis on water table
this guy has caused quite an upset and has done this from what we can gather out of silliness becuase we formed a club
what do you do with this small minded attitude as it is having an impact on clubs now applying for planning ??

If you look around the net for stuff on bullet catchers. You can find some ideas that will stop lead getting into the ground and then the water supply.

There's some cheap ones and some more expensive ones. There's probably a few lads on here who'd know more, but if you can stop the lead getting in the ground in the first place :)

If you use 45 Gallon plastic Sealed Drums with a door cut into the side, fill with sand, placed on there side and fix your target boards to the end of the drums. There is then no seepage of lead pollution into the watercourse.

This will collect all lead/heads, is suitable for all calibers and can be very easily emptied by having a roll on platform with a wire mesh grader underneath it to separate sand from lead.

If I can be of any help (Photos and the likes) please PM me.

I asked a young apprentice who would be on site to make a few enquiries about that bracken club, as advertised, and he came back with some disturbing news. He is from that area and he told me that this club had fallen foul with the locals for miles (his words) over noise and a planning application.
I decided to check this out and sent an email but have received no reply yet as there are comments at THE SHOOTEST posts that there is some “silliness” around about this club. Nothing silly when it comes to shooting, there are enough antis out there. I found that this application was turned down for several reasons (Ref no (J/2006/0796/F) at pacni.gov.uk, and also at Strabane District Council minutes of 25th June 2007.
I have no gripe with this club but there is a lot of harm being done when club officials are not up front with shooters who are being invited to take part at venues where they face losing their firearms. Private vendettas we don’t need.

    Bullet Trap
There shouldn’t be a problem if bullet catcher (back stop) is built to MOD/PSNI specifications. Just a case of keeping an account of the number of rounds fired and then digging out the catcher and replacing. Old sand can be sieved through and what’s left can be disposed at council dump.

how dare them apply for planning permission >>>
how dare them do things right within the law
how dare them spend money on an independat sound survey(they got a grant for)

your apprentce knows all the details
does he know anything about not shooting on a sunday
(even god took a day off)
does he live near the range ????
there are times when the ordinary man must stand up to the BULLY
    who hides behind the pen

end of the road in sight

If I could understand any of this I could maybe give a comment but this seems to be getting personal and If I read the rules right this Forum is for swapping relevant information between like minded people and not for a slagging match.
The guy lives in the area as explained and is entitled to his opinion the same as me or you or the bully.
Don't bother replying if you cannot stick to the rules.
