There's an old Mercian in need of a bit of TLC in a big skip on Cross avenue.

very rarely see roadbikes in "skips". there's a few fair decent abandoned mtb/hybrids around though.

Saw a thread on bikerforum.net about a lovely fully rideable fixie (retro, proper track bike). Made me drool!

I've built 3 bikes up out of skips. They're great if ya know what to look for! My pride n joy was when I was on my grad night, buckled drunk stumbling back to a friends, when in a back lane, we found a gold mine! Built 2.5 bikes there n then, I stashed the best in a bush (picked it up in my brothers Skyline the next day, which was already full of stuff), the other was donated to whoever found it after I abandoned it!

Got a racer/tourer that I've stripped n cleaned, planning on painting it up. Gonna build another fixie, and sort a friend out! There some patches of rust I wanna investigate, but hopefully it's just on the surface!

    Gooooo, skips!

I think it would be brilliant if there was somewhere set up (maybe by the government department who should be encouraging cycling) in the city centre where people could bring old un-wanted bikes, and just leave them. So that then when people want a bike for free they can go along and get one.
It would save old bikes ending up in skips and landfills, or worse in the canal or the liffey.
