Anybody up for a spin on Thur evening.
Hoping for 2-3 good hours in the saddle.

Open to route suggestions. Could do Kildare, Meath or Wicklow. May even scout the Boards TT toute if anyone is interested.

Ideally would like to leave from the Park somewhere between 6 and 7pm.

    Any takers.

I am up for that, prefer southside.

    Would we need lights?

Not sure - home to be home 10 at latest. Lights wouldnt hurt, but front lights possibly unnecessary.

Are you around the Celbridge/Leixlip direction?

Celbridge and will travel... to a point :D

It would suit me to go Kildare, so Celbridge would be preferrable than Southside spin (sorry Astra - but if you come along, I will show you the wonders of Irelands flatlands).

@MLOC - I will think of a route and get back to you on a time/meeting point - but suggest, say Intel as a meeting poin?.

Cool yeah, I'll be home for 6.30 so any time after that is good for me.

How far are we planning to go? I am looking for a max of 70-80kms, i don't want to push the knee (i 'll do that next weekend at kilkenny :D)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,831 ✭✭✭ROK ON

In the region of 70km sounds about right.

AT Astra, we could head out Kildare direction and head back close to the Southside for you to drop off and head home.

Rough Kildare/Meath route... could take in some of the batterstown/trim road also.

What time and where are you starting?

    Should be on for this!

Suggest 6.30 leaving the Farmleigh House Gate in the Phoenix Park.
Farmleigh house is very close to the Castleknock Gate of the park.

Any idea how long it'll take to get to leixlip?

Depends what speed you are going at but I would imagine in the region of 30 minutes.

    ;)

I'll be at Intel for just before 7 then.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,831 ✭✭✭ROK ON

@MLOC - 7 at Intel is fine. If you could be at the Maynooth?kellystown Lane exit that would be good.

Thinking of heading back roads to Punchestown and then take ot from there.

I don't know Farmleigh house or Castleknock gate.. Can someone meet me at Pope's cross at 6:20 or give me directions? I am hopeless at anything that has to do with north..

@ Astra: Farmleigh is as follows.

Enter the park at the main gate on Parkgate St. Now cycle up the main road in the park in the direction of Castleknock.

At the final (third) roundabout just before Castleknock, turn left and after 100m turn right. Voila, Farmleigh.

Just for reference the 1st roundabout is close to the zoo, the 2nd one is close to the Aras (presidents house). You go thru all of these, until you get to the 3rd roundabout.

Didn't check before heading over, passed intel and went up by kellystown... didn't see anyone up that way.

Okay so for me the spin went from bad to worse!

First waitforme and myself waited for around twenty minutes before we decided just to go off ourselves and both of us have only been out that direction a few times before so needless to say we didnt have a clue where we were going, then we only remembered that there was others meeting at Intel , but by the time we got there it was around half seven, and it was about now that the heavens opened and we got soaked, so we headed towards Celbridge but decided to just head back to Dublin casue the rain was still heavy. We ended up on the N4 which was horrible and it was here that i brushed with death! so after many bad directions on my behalf we finally got back into town. And i get home only to find there is no hot water so i need to wait to have a shower!

Im sorry for all the bad directions Paul!

Still got 60km done though so not too bad after all, i just felt i'd go on a bit of a rant!:D:D

I'd much rather go out and get wet and lost, than stay in, especially after all day stuck at a desk. I'm still re-running your near miss, jeez that was scary to watch.

I didn't pass the two of ye at the roundabout did I? Was wearing a black/blue/yellow jersey and on a black/grey trek 1000.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 72 ✭✭waitforme

Could be! one in yellow other in blue, debating which way to head because of the rain, that was us.

Route I ended up doing. Yup it must have been ye I passed, didn't realise at the time :o

What happened on the way back in? N4 isn't the nicest.

We were coming up to an exit off the road and we decided a little too late to take it and me being completely stupid decides to turn left without checking behind me for any cars, needless to say a jeep flew by me and was so close to me!
I neary died with the shock i got!
