    Hi there,

If I buy any ipod travel speakers/docking station, etc can I assume these will all work for an iPhone too or do you need to buy special iPhone assessories??

    Simple answer - No.

I have a really Belkin Fm transmitter and charger for the car. It does neither for the iPhone. I also have an iLuv yoke speaker/clock radio thing that you can dock your iphone in. While it does play music etc, it doesnt charge the iPhone.

There's a lot of confusion about what does work with the iPhone and what doesn't. A lot of ipod accessories will work with the iphone but when you plug them in, you might get a message that says "this accessory does not work with iphone" when in fact it does, i.e. my Belkin Tunecast Auto fm transmitter sometimes throws up this message on the phone and asks do I want to put the phone in airplane mode (where I wouldn't receive calls) but I dismiss this message and the fm transmitter does play my music and charges the phone.

Apple should get its act together and bring out some kind of certification about an accessory being fully iphone compatible (and without the "nag screen").

I get this with an FM Radio/speaker set thingy I bought.
The only thing I've seen not work is a non-Apple "video out" cable.

Good point! I just bought the av component cable - which is supposedly an iphone accessory. It works perfectly for tv out on iphone 3G S , but at random intervals I get that nag-message! Ridiculous, Apple!

    Thanks for the input lads.

I assume this would do the trick for what I am looking for. Only one review though and doesn't say much about compatibilty.

That's the cause of the problem, or some of it at least. There is a certification program for the iPhone, and devices which are certified to be compatible by Apple get a little microchip built in which confirms it. A lot of the older iPod stuff, will work with the iPhone but it doesn't have the chip so the iPhone automatically throws up the error. Also some newer stuff also works fine, but because the manufacturers don't want to pay Apple for the process, they don't get the chip and the message comes up too.

I have a firewire plug adapter that came with a 4th generation iPod (2004) which does not work with my iPhone 3GS and a set of Logic3 portable speakers that won't charge my iPhone. It's highly frustrating as now I have no use for them and they're just going to be thrown out creating more waste. Not very environmentally friendly apple!

I bought an ILUV "IPOD & IPHONE DOCK" in PowerCity
    http://www.powercity.ie/?par=20-20-IMM173

It says on it that it is "Made for iPod" and "Works with iPhone". However it does not charge my iPhone 2G - despite stating that it does in the manuals. It will play music off the iPhone alright.

Any ideas if this is an issue with my iPhone or the product? Does anyone else have this Radio Alarm Clock charging an iPhone.

i was in fairyhouse a few months back and bought an fm transmitter + charger, again, i get the message and it says that to receive better transmission i should go into airplane mode, but it makes no difference as the damn thing still gives static once it is between tracks, so im gonna get a belkin that my mate has, it has a tough rigid arm that can flex to whatever angle and shape you want, and the top has a rotating cradle that can give you cover flow mode or onto the basic iPod controls by twisting it up on standing angle, and, it has a thing that locks the frequency and doesnt allow static, i'm def buying it as i got Zagg on my iPhone today so it'll fit in the cradle now instead of the big bulky case i had
