Hi - not too sure if this should be in the Anime board or not, but let's give it a lash here.

I'm a relative newcomer to your world of comics etc and I was wondering if any of you could recommend me some Korean comics (Eng. trans!)) that are worthy of attention?

Maybe it would help if I gave an idea of some of the Japanese ones I like?

Here goes: Lonewolf and Cub, Crying Freeman, Vagabond, Battle Royale are examples

And just in general - Samurai, horrors, action, police, sci-fi, ghost stories and so on.

I'm not really interested in 'romance' (schoolgirls flashing their knickers) or anything +too+ cutesy.

Hopefully some of you can help me out...

    Cheers! :pac:

Chunchu by Kim Sung-Jae and Kim Byung-Jin is one of my fav manhwa titles. If you like the art style of Lonewolf and cub you'll like this. It's published by Dark Horse Manhwa an imprint of Dark Horse Comics - one of the few western publishers that actually makes a distinction between Manga, Manhaw and Mahua comics. Tokyopop has published a few manhaw titles like Demon Diary by Lee Chi-Hyong and Kara but labels them as manga and usually the only clues that it's Korean and not Japanese is the creators names and that it is printed left to right rather then right to left.

Right so my first venture into the Korean stuff was an abject failure!

Got a second hand copy of Priest vol. 1 in that deadly shop on Crow St in Templebar.

Horrible stuff altogether. Really didn't enjoy it.

Saw a copy of Chunchu vol. 2 in Chapter's second hand - had a quick flick through it and it looked damn cool, but I'll wait until see a copy of vol. 1 before purchasing.

Yeah I didn't like Priest either, hence why I didn't rec it, it seems to be the go to manwha titles for most when people are asked to rec one but I just couldn't get into it. It's being made into a live action film in english by Sam Raimi which could go be interesting or really crap as I can see it being pushed as japanese rather then korean.

Shaman Warrior is another one translated by Dark Horse but haven't seen it around Irish shops, might be best looking online for alot of the Dark Horse Manwha series.

Blade of the Phantom Master is a great manwha that is yet to see an english translation which is shame and slightly odd as the animated feature film based on the series has been released in english.

I know FP have copies of The Great Catsby cus I picked them up there but not sure if it's the style of comic your after...it's furry for a start.

    bloody furries...

but yeah,I`ve seen The Great Catsby in Chapters.I haven`t read it(can`t stand the furries thing,it`s against god and nature I tells ya!)so I can`t say if its any good or not.

But,anyway if you`re interested,Chapters had about two copies last time I was in if I remember correctly.
