Rent allowance and housing list

I rent a room in my house to a girl who wants to apply for rent allowance. The citizens info site says that's it's necessary to put your name on the local authority housing list but that you are exempt from doing so if you have been a private tenant for 6 months. She has been here longer than that. Can somebody here confirm that she doesn't have to go on the housing list. She has no need for the council to provide her with a house, she is only staying until Christmas, no children, etc.

I'm not registered as a landlord. Does that matter?

Will somebody call round to check the house?

Is it paid to her or me?

Thanks if anybody can help. I was unemployed for a bit a few years ago but never got rent allowance because my landlord at the time didn't accept it.

Her english isn't the best and she's having trouble sorting this out so I'm trying to.

Someone will likely check that the house ticks all the boxes.

If you live there as well then you don't have to be registered as a landlord as you are renting under the "rent a room scheme"

It'd do no harm for her to go on the housing list anyway - she's not about to be offered a place as it's a waiting list the length of the equator. It might be easier to just get on the housing list rather than fight them on whether the regulations state she has to or not.
