Its been a few years since I've been to the Galway races so I am unsure what to wear!

Im not going for Ladies Day this year, just going down the Friday and Saturday! So I am wondering how dressy is it those days? What should I wear?!

    Thanks

    Hi How are you
I was at the races last year we only went on the sunday. it was a mad hatters day so some people had well...mad hats :p
there was 4 of us girls and we got kitted out in our best gear - like we wore nice dresses which you could wear to a wedding (as a guest now)
and we first saw some real casual dressed people but then there were some really dressed up people
so its a really good reason to get dressed up and you won't feel out of place :) wish i was going this year aw have fun

Ya ur def better to over-dress when you go... a nice dressy dress as opposed to pants.. no one really wears the whole black tight look since its summer...

Was on the weather during the week. Then again you'd wonder how reliable their predictions are - it's over a week away! Worst it, my bf reckons there's not a lot of point going if it's pourin rain! :( Hope he's joking!!

I hate rain! [Unless I'm wearing a rain coat and wellies - which won't be very appropriate for Ladies Day but would work for Paddies day!!! ]

The great thing about going to the races is that there's no dress code (unless going to Royal Ascot in the UK). You can dress up or down as much as you want. Hats are, of course, optional.

However, the following are some main points that I would recommend:

    1. Dress in something in which you're comfortable, and something that you won't be afraid will fall down/rise up, etc. etc.

    2. Dress for the weather and always bring a jacket/coat/cardigan/wrap to pull on if it gets cold.

    3. An umbrella, whether part of your outfit or squished into a bag is always a good idea, especially given the unreliable Irish weather.

    4. And finally, comfortable shoes and/or shoes that you're able to walk in are an absolutely necessary (unless you bring a pair of flats in your bag that you can put on when your feet get sore). (And don't forget, comfortable does not mean that they can't be stylish, too!)

And just to give you an idea of what I've worn to racing festivals in the past:

    http://www.hobbs.co.uk/index.cfm?page=1116&pageNumber=3 (lawn dress)

    http://www.hobbs.co.uk/index.cfm?page=1114 (Drury dress)

http://www.oasis-stores.com/Square-Sunray-Dress/Dresses/oasis/fcp-product/3470055325 (similar style, but different colour)

http://www.oasis-stores.com/Lace-Sleeve-Pintuck-Dress/Dresses/oasis/fcp-product/3770016201 (not the actual dress, but similar style)

http://www.coast-stores.com/FLORENCE-DRESS/Dresses---view-all/coast/fcp-product/2224680501 (not the actual dress I have, but similar shape)

I love how the use of the dress can be changed with different acessories, and by pairing them with different cardies/jackets/coats/shoes and adding a hat or headpiece for fun. It means that they'll carry me from everything from the races to weddings to dinner parties to Christenings, birthday parties, etc.

Ooh isn't that Lima dress FAB.. Typical, have spent last two months looking for nice dresses for a wedding I'm going to on Friday, end up resigning myself to wearing something I have already and NOW I see a dress that would be perfect:P
