    What's reasonably priced? :)

    I do.

But some other people might not think so, because they only judge on one or two simplistic criteria such as looks or cool-yet-pointless Flash effects, and they don't look at issues re cross-browser compatibility, SEO, updatability, scalability, return-on-investment, etc.

well, how much is reasonable for re-writing text on five pages and inserting one or two pictures?

That's not a web designers job. Find somone with a bit of IT knowledge and someone with good copywriting skills for something like that.

well, how much is reasonable for putting up four walls and inserting one or two pieces of furniture?

Don't mean to be obtuse but there are far too many variables and you'd be lucky for any web designer / developer that's worth their salt to come back with a quote based on an outline like that.

So far, based on your outline, it'd probably be somewhere in the region of "nothing at all" to a couple of thousand euro.

im not looking for a wall to be built but thanks for the offer. its just re writing the text on five pages. roughly 800 words and inserting 2 or 3 pictures.

have a look at some of the tutorials online and do it yourself - its not worth a web techie's time to do something of that size - should only take you about a day or so to understand and do it. (prob only take a techie less than an hour)

Sorry, yeah.. if it's really just rewriting text on an existing website -- probably best do it yourself or get a friend to do it for you.

I was under the impression you wanted the website designed and built first. Very different kettle of fish altogether.

So you've got an existing website, and you want to change the content of a few pages ? That's a completely different story!

You could be looking at under €100 (or, as those above have said, possibly doing it yourself) but there are still a few variables:

    1) Do you have the FTP details for the website ?
    2) Do you have the images (and the copyright to use the images) that you want to put on the page ?
    3) Do you have the spec for the size/resolution of the images ?
    4) Are the images already resized to that spec ?
    5) Do you have the original source code of the site ? It can be retrieved via FTP, but in order to test it properly this could involve getting the whole site in order to have the various style sheets, scripts, etc
    6) Can you tell someone PRECISELY what you want changed, clearly and concisely, in a way that they don't have to go looking or double-checking (it all takes time) ?
    7) Are you 100% that it's purely text and image replacement, and that there's no functionality changes ?
    8) Is there any potentially dodgy Microsoft Word-style characters, bullets, tables, lists or formatting in the new content ? If so, these will have to be fixed in order that the site works properly.

If the answer to all the above is yes, then I'd charge about €30 per hour for it, and it could be done in no time.

But if any of those is a no, then you're looking at more time, and therefore more cost.
