Leaving O2 before contract expires

Hi all, I was wondering if any of you here have experience of trying to get out of the 18mth broadband contract. It turns out I will be departing these shores 6 months earlier than anticipated when I signed up so therefore will be unable to use the service. Should I tell them this or should I say that the service in the area I'm in is poor (around my parents home it is). Ideally I'd like to get out of any penalty charge so any tips would be much appreciated :)

There will be a penalty to pay, and if you decide to lie and tell them the service doesn't work, you'll need to back it up, and give them the opportunity to fix it.

Not too sure if its the same, but with my O2 phone contract,I went away for a year and I was still under the contract but there was a way that for €5 a month I could keep it goin without using it,then when the terms of my contract were up I cancelled it,maybe you could try that.
