Hi, I'm moving down the country for work reasons. I would like to join a self-defence club and I'm wondering if anyone could help me. Is there a club in the galway/roscommon region that caters for adult beginners? I don't know a lot about martial arts but there are a few styles that I would like to try out (muay thai, capoeira, boxing, kickboxing, combatives). If there is anything along those lines, I would be interested. I'm pretty open-minded about it. I guess Galway city would be the most likely place to find such clubs???

    Thanks in advance!

    There's Black dragon kickboxing http://blackdragon.ie
    There's Dave Joyce's Muay Thai
    There's Mark Leonard's MMA http://www.pointblankgym.com/
    There's a host of judo clubs http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055122220

    There's much more too.

ok thanks. I have to say I am undecided. Muay Thai and Kickboxing both look pretty good. Would I be right in thinking that kickboxing has more emphasis on hand striking than Muay Thai? Or is that misguided?

MMA also looks cool, but I don't know how I feel about grappling, I had never really thought about doing it before.

Does anyone know of any personal trainers for these sports in Galway?

    OP.

Muay Thai uses hands as much as they use legs, elbows or knees.

Give Dave Joyce a call or Pat McEvoy, depends where in Galway your based I guess. Good Luck.

The "Ninjutsu guy" in Oranmore is Alan Butler who teaches Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu ... I HIGHLY recomend you go down and view a class.

Why not call down and give it a try? If you like it you can keep coming, if not there's plenty of other clubs about too.
There's begineers classes running Mondays (not on this bank holiday Monday) and Tuesdays at 7:00.
