anyone been on a j1 and got a place in manhattan? just wondering how much you paid in rent?

You will deitely pay for the accomodation in Manhattan. I paid $1,000 a month couple of years back.
If you don't have a well paying job set up best option is to stay in Queens, subway will get you into Grand Central in about 10 minutes if you're close and it's 24 hours
