The idea is fine in theory as GMS are played out, its just the selecion so far leaves a lot to be desired. Batista and Seth Green was fine but ZZ Top last night were terrible. I am hopeful of Shaq entertaining me though.:o

Not a bad idea but needs the right hosts not just anybody handy who has something to plug, Shaq might be good he has personality as is up for a laugh

When it's The Million Dollar Man it's a great idea. The rest so far...

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,933 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

As people have said it is a good idea despite being gimmicky as no matter what it will draw in an audience, be it older fans who hear The Million Dollar Man is hosting, basketball fans that hear Shaq is hosting or just fans of carcrash tv that hear Zz top (or whoever they think might fail tbh beforehand i had some lil hopes for Zztop) or whatever. However the choice of who these hosts are is crucial especially if it can have a negative effect on the quality of the show be it attracting slighty better numbers or not, if the product is poor they wont be repeat viewers without the guest host they came to see.

Anyone any reccomendations who would make a good/acceptable/great host? I believe Sacha Cohen is a big WWE fan

Ah man, Bruno as a guest host would be fecking AWESOME! The skits with Santino alone would be gold!

Other than that I think they need to bring in people who can actually move forward story-lines or are relevant to wrestling in some way. Batista and DiBiase were good because the fans knew who they were, what their positions were, etc., random people coming in for a week and just doing stuff makes no sense as it adds nothing to the fued and it's difficult to believe they even care. I mean c'mon, does anyone honestly think that ZZ Top give a dan about wrestling or have a clue about what is going on story-line wise?

Does anyone really care about ZZ Top anymore? Vince sometimes comes across as totally out of touch when it comes to what is hip these days.
Cohen is meant to be mates with Cena so it could happen, but I assume Vince is worried what he would do with a live audience in these PG Times.

A friend of mine saw them at Download this year and said they were awesome so apparently they really are making a hell of a push at a comeback, being on WWE would have been part of that I reckon

Is shaqs new show gonna be on the same network as Raw?

I find it annoying when the guest hosts cant act or read lines right, and how its always going to be because they are promoting something.

Its like the mania run up every week with each one on about something new.

Like i think they mentioned the country wide tour with aerosmith on monday more times than jericho referenced the wrestler and micky rourke at this years one.

I think it's a great idea - ZZ Top's flop can't cancel out the return of the Million Dollar Man, or the Seth Green (who, on balance, added to the show). It's also a great way to use talent that are laid low with injuries. It just needs one thing consistently - a decent guest host! Shaq should be fun.

Hopefully Edge will feature as a host some week...now that would be good!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,730 ✭✭✭✭Penn

They just need to get the balance right between hosts who will add viewers to the show (like ZZ Top, Shaq) and hosts who will actually make a great show (Batista, Million Dollar Man)

And I'm not saying the hosts who add viewers aren't good, I thought Seth Green was pretty good, but they need to have some hosts from the industry to really set things up, set up rivalries and title defences for PPVs, then other hosts to just keep things ticking along

i think from a booking perspective its kinda stupid.

Like you have the 3 on 2 tag match which was a repeat of the weeks before.
Except with a man Half a man down.

Like it does nothing atmosphere wise.

I think the biggest thing i seen going over in the arenas was Cena's hype up on monday, which i thought was good.

But ive said it already, its just wwe trying to reach out to people who probably dont watch wresting, or at least dont watch it anymore.

Million dollar man: For all the old 80s/90s fans to have an excuse to see whats happening.

Seth Green: For all the geeks who watch family guy and have the box set dvds of robot chicken and plays their xbox whenever they get the chance (i fall into this catergory :p). Most of these guys are watchers already but i know my roomate who knows who seth green is watched it last week to see what would happen.

And ZZ Top: For all those later in life, who heard ZZtop and probably live in some southern state.
Lets be honest, ZZtop are the poor mans aerosmith. So id say there is a lot of people who bought tickets to the concerts who watched this week too.

    And now shaq next week.
The "real sports" news stations nearly never pick up on WWE apart from a few occasions (benoit, mania, trump).

But you know they will probably be all over this one like a rash.

Which means the fathers who's sons watch when they cant understand why will give it a look in cos an american sporting icon will be on.

And lets not forget, these people have all been plugging something.

Which to me makes it seem cheap.

Hopefully Macho Man will make a comeback as guest host, +1m on Bruno.
    And i found this
Hulk Hogan has actually been brought up as a possible RAW guest host in the future but Vince McMahon shoots his name down every time it's mentioned for the role. Vince is looking at a Kristin Prouty for a lot of input on the angle. Kristin works in WWE's Entertainment Relations department and was responsible for bringing in Seth Green and opening up conversations with other celebrities.

I like the idea of celebrities who are genuine WWE fans and ex WWE superstars or injured WWE superstars as hosts - ZZ Top were terrible

I think ZZ Top are fans. I think I saw one of them at a PPV, possible Summerslam 2007 or a Wrestlemania or something

I swear to christ, if I see Shaq open up a can of "Shaq Fu™" when he is GM, I will hurt somebody.

Jeremey Piven is hosting it in two weeks which is superb news. He is in Entourage for those who don't know him.

THE HOLLYWOOD CONNECTION CONTINUES ON RAW AS ENTOURAGE STAR JEREMY PIVEN TO HOST RAW NEXT MONTH
    by Dave Scherer @ 2009-07-22 13:04:32

WWE just sent out the following press release. Wrestling really is becoming secondary on Monday nights.

Shaq and Jeremy Piven Tapped as Next Hosts of WWE's Monday Night Raw®

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--WWE’s Monday Night Raw® on USA Network continues its weekly celebrity guest host series with NBA All-Star Shaquille O’Neal and Emmy Award-winning actor and Entourage star, Jeremy Piven.

Each week celebrities from the world of sports, television, music and film take control of the most-watched regularly scheduled program on cable television by arranging matches, dictating stipulations and managing the entire RAW roster of WWE Superstars and Divas for the evening. Actor/writer/producer Seth Green and Rock N Roll Hall of Famers ZZ Top were the first two guest hosts of Monday Night Raw, which airs live episodes each week at 9:00 PM ET on USA Network.

In addition to his role as Ari Gold in Entourage, Piven will be starring in the upcoming comedy film, The Goods: Live Hard. Sell Hard debuting in theaters August 14th.

It'd have to be something to be plugged, wouldnt it?

As much as I like Jeremy Piven, this is a bad move. Shaq is the host the night after NOC. They should have someone from the industry (former wrestler, injured wrestler etc) the next week in order to set things up for Summerslam. They can help build up fueds faster than celebrities.

And as CM Punked said, its a shame he's doing it because he has something to plug. This ain't the Jay Leno show. Get people who want to do it and are entusiastic about doing wrestling. Maybe Piven does like wrestling, but its too convenient that he has a movie out the same time

Was actually thinking they could have Vincent chase host it in character (if hes a fan) and do it as part of an episode where Drama would probably end up getting booked in a gimmick match against Mark Henry or Hornswaggle but I cant see them doing that with Ari as well the agent hosting the show would make no sense, so itl be Piven as himself

Yeah they're trying to make it more PG-13 rather than PG.According to a few wrestling sites.Expect more Seth Green-esque swimsuit matches if he is the guest host.Right after Summerslam is a good time to be guest host of RAW especially when HBK is supposed to be making his return then, A lot more to work with hopefully.

    That would make sense:
Mon, Aug 24 WWE presents Monday Night Raw - Las Vegas, Nev. 5:30 p.m.

he's been on Raw countless times when its been in Sin City.
