Dell laptops, Lattitude vs Inspiron?

Can anyone outline the difference between these machines? I have bought two Lattitudes, one in '98 the other in '04. Both performed faultlessly and have since been handed down and are still going strong, particularly the '04 machine.

I bought an Inspiron 24 mths ago and am ready to toss it, battery at the end of its life, dog slow, poor screen, etc.

OK, Lattitude cost 3K, Inspiron cost 0.5K

Is it worth it? What are your opinions?

Well the Latitude is a more durable machine as it is recomended for business use. Depending on what you want to use it for the Latitude is designed to last.

The Inspiron is not designed to go through too much wear and tear as its only recommended for home use. It's cheaper though.

Buy an inspiron with a better battery... and I think you can choose a better screen aswel when buying. That'll save you a few bob.

The inspiron being "dog slow" is more likely to be an issue with the OS, usually due to user error. I would generally guess that a latitude will stand the test of time better than an inspiron, but seeing the spec that's available for the price i really just can't justify it tbh.

In the old days of CPX & CPI there was a huge difference in quality and price between the Latitude and Inspiron. They then introduced the option of the "Celeron" CPU to the Latitude range in 1999 and that brought down the good name.

It depends on the specifications of the machine you order and customize. The gap narrows between a lower end Latitude and Higher end Inspiron.
