There's a prebuilt binary of a simulator which runs the Apollo Guidance Computer which you can get here:

    http://www.ibiblio.org/apollo/Downloads/VirtualAGC-installer

It installs and runs fine on my Jaunty 64-bit machine.

Here's a picture of it running on my desktop:

If you want you can get the source code here:

    http://www.ibiblio.org/apollo/

    it contains some alarming comments:
    TS	WCHPHASE
TC	BANKCALL	# TEMPORARY, I HOPE HOPE HOPE
CADR	STOPRATE	# TEMPORARY, I HOPE HOPE HOPE
TC	DOWNFLAG	# PERMIT X-AXIS OVERRIDE

    and
    		DMP*	VXSC
    			GAINBRAK,1	# NUMERO MYSTERIOSO
    			ANGTERM

    .

I find it even more impressive that we were able to get to the moon with the equivelant of a 10 year old mobile phone powering it, if even that.

    Verb - Noun.

Nothing more. Almost raw machine language

Only hardcore command-line afficianado's need apply.

true, those guys had nothing more powerful than a scientific calculator to get them to the moon - and they really had to use it if anything went wrong. as well as being hot shot pilots, they really had to know their stuff - they were "the right stuff". looking back I'm sure we wouldn't even contemplate doing it again if we only had the technology of the time..

cheers for the link on conky - I knew i had seen it on DSL.. but never thought about it.. its on my desktop now anyway.
