Deep Vein Thrombosis

Hi I'm in Canada and arrived here by a ten hour flight six weeks ago.

Ever since I got here I've been getting a bad pain in my left leg. I have it for a few days and then it goes away for a good few days. One of my friends asked her doctor and he thought I could be deficient in magnesium. I took it but it made little difference.
I've been having bad pain yesterday and today. I thought about Deep Vein Thrombosis but could you still have symptoms six weeks after your flight?
I'm scared and I want to ask the doctor this today but I don't want to sound stupid. Can you only have deep vein thrombosis directly after your flight? Or could you have it weeks later, thanks for any info.

Ask your doctor, no one here can give medical advice.

Your friend shouldn't be asking her doctor about what you've said to her. You should be asking your doctor.

You won't sound stupid. Doctors have heard far worse. Go to the doctor. Pick a random doctor you'll never see again if you are that embarrassed.

Well my canadian friend asked her doctor as I'm obviously not registered with anyone here.
It took me a while to find out how I'm supposed to see a doctor here,I have health insurance but it's still so complicated. Apparantly I'm not allowed to see a regular doctor on a tourist visa - I have to go to the emergency room at the hospital and pay 300 dollars just to get a check up.
It's just scary being in a foreign country when something goes wrong!

You should have a phone number for your health insurance. Call them then and they will direct you to where you should go.

    Alternatively go to the ER.

Your Travel Insurance provider should be able to hook you up with a doctor.

Do not rely on Internet forums for medical advice. One would have hoped that is self-evident advice.
