Picture Capture from S-Video

    Hi,

Firstly, sorry if this is posted in the wrong area. I am looking for a good way to take a screen grab from a 4-pin S-Video lead and record it to a PC. I have inherited an old microscope with a very old digital camera. It outputs to a 4-pin S-Video. I worried about getting the wrong card as I'm not sure if there are many with a 4-pin S-Video In. If it has a 7-pin SVideo In, will it still work? I assume it is out of the question with a 9-pin In.

Also, I'm not looking to capture video, just stills, so is there one card better than others for this purpose.

Finally, I need this for work, so it would be very handy if someone can recommend a bricks and mortar shop (maplins, PC world, etc) so I can just run in and get these this week.

    Thanks

There are many PC cards and USB devices that will capture from a 4-pin s-video input. Of these, they can either encode the input as mpg2 video on the card/device or they can let the PC do the work.

Maplins should have a reasonable selection and they could provide some advice too. As for capturing stills as opposed to video. I've never heard of it. s-video is a "video" lead. But even if somethine can capture video, you can always pause it and capture that. Maybe there is some software specifically for stills.

You can order from Komplett also and collect from them directly but I guess there would still be a delay in getting the order ready for you as they could be stocked outside Ireland.
