Team Saxo-Bank Jinx - Voigt crashes out of Tour

Is it Team Saxo-Bank's equipment that's failing them or are they just jinxed? Seems like Saxo-Bank riders have gone back to Team car to get tyres changed, etc, more than most in this years Tour. Voigts accident looked like it happened for no apparent reason. Could have been more serious and was fairly serious by the looks of it. Equipment failure??? Should be looked into. Cancellara went back to team car 2/3 times on the day he lost the yellow jersey and got back wheel changed each time. Similar happened to the Schlecks already.

Was one of those wheel changes from Mavic? I think it was.

video shows that his front wheel was spinning as the bike went down so I don;t think a lock-up is responsible. To me it looks like he simply lost his grip with his left hand on the bars as he went over a lump and the bars turned hard to the right. He did a savage amount of work on that climb and it's fair to assume he was all fcuked out at the back of that group. A lapse in concentration with serious consequences.

I hope we get positive news, head injuries are not good, but Jens eats children so he should be up and about in no time. The crash has put a big black shadow over an otherwise very cool stage.

Have to agree with niceonetom, looked like he simply lost grip of his bars.
Hats off to the motorbike rider coming behind,it could of been a lot worse.
Wish the chap a speedy recovery.

I'm no expert but I think his front wheel slipped on the white line and thats why he went down. A tiny turn of the bars maybe?

That crash only heightened my desire to own a Specialized bike. You could really see the lateral stiffness and vertical compliance working together as his face ripped into the tarmac.

    from andy schlecks twitter...
Jens is okay he is not in danger get stitches an broken cheekbone but he told us to kick a... Next days with a smile

Sorry, I was going to post something nice, but then I read that he was OK, so I thought I'd take the piss instead.

I was trying (sarcastically and tangentially) to suggest that maybe there are more important things than stiffness in a bike, given the state of the roads around here. Descents around Wicklow are covered with bumps like that.

It did look really nasty. I was watching it live and my initial reaction was that he hit a bump in the road, and the front wheel whipped sideways out of his control. (Levi Leipheimer said "That was a very bad crash, looked like his hands slipped off the bars.")

Thankfully he seems to be doing ok, by the sound of the news reports and twitters.

@Lumen I guess that's why they call it the S-Works Tarmac...

good to hear he's ok (sort of) having surfed my face down tarmac and cracked and eye socket it is not nice esp. since my sinuses have never been the same since, but I guess he's getting better treatment then the nhs !

Those pics actually don't look too bad, although I guess with a head injury you can never tell. I was expecting something like those "massive facial injury" pics based on the speed of the crash and the way he fell.

I'm most surprised that his legs are OK. When I watched the accident it looked like his right leg was taking the full force of the tarmac. Maybe the pics don't show the right angle.

One of those pictures also suggests that there's no basis for all the rumours about a stem or steerer failure. The cockpit looks intact.

i was expecting his face to be torn to shreds, nearly down to the bone, it was horrible to watch, as bad as it was, i think he got off lightly,

    hopefully he`ll recover quickly

thats what I thought too, he comes off the bump going slightly sideways, front wheel touches white line and goes the other way giving a nasty speed wobble and throwing him off.

watched it a few times and froze the frames, his back wheel raised from the road (for what reason who knows) but then as it landed as it veers to the left the tub rolls

im glad to hear hes ok. An impressive rider with always a positive attitude.

Thought same as that. Stills look ok. Live, it looked like he was shredding skin as he slide face & leg down.

    Lucky, despite it all!

Youch, that looks painful. Guess he won't be shaving for a while. Good to hear he's OK, although the git only got me 88 points in velogames and now I'm a man down.
