SSo the wonderful Mr.Fonnen dropped over to my house with the George A Romero boxset yesterday.

Not watching them in any particular order (as ive seen a few before).

Last night was Day of the Dead. I liked it(hadnt seen it before), seemed a bit dated at the beginning, but i really enjoyed it.
Less zombies than i thought, more on survivors breaking down. The soldiers were a bigger threat than the zeds.

Most creepy part of the film is Bub
the trained zombie, who learns to use a gun!

Im 5 minutes into Land of the Dead, so far interesting, seems a little removed from the previous films.

So my pro survivors, lets have a nice little chat about Mr Romeros work.

Romero gets a lot of stick, but tbh, I enjoy them.

Land of the Dead is very far removed, there are a lot of elements I dislike about it, but it's still an alright movie. It'd be my least favorite of the lot. Is Diary included in the boxset?

yup, diary is next on my list, probably tomorrow. 1hr:13mins into land.

I kinda like it, even if its super removed from the usual.
i like the little bolt guns though

Did you spot Simon Pegg when watching Land of the Dead?

He plays one of the zombies

Simon Pegg is even on the cover of Land of the Dead, here look.

    land_of_the_dead_cover.jpg

Look at the black guy on the front. Now look directly over his shoulder to the right, the zombie with dark, full hair and almost luminous eyes. Right behind him, that's Simon Pegg, with the white/blonde hair. It's definetly his hair, I'd know it anywhere.

Anyway, Day of the Dead is the best of the Dead series that Romero came up with. I think it was really saying something about the Cold War in the 1980s, even how the Scientists and Soliders try to remain normal, they are in a very surreal and dangerous situation, kind of like how we still are, with all those nuclear weapons sitting in silo's, waiting to be used.

Romero may be credited with creating the zombie genre but he also made some of its worst films.
Personnaly i have a love/hate thing for romeros movies, for the best part they're pretty bad but there's just something that makes me love 'em!
Night was a master piece, dawn was good but aged terrible, day was half good/half sh1t, land was good with the exception of zombies acting as a unit which took from it, diary was decent but had racial undertones i didn't think were needed in a horror movie.

Night remake was better then original, dawn remake was more exciting to watch but got rid of shamblers, day remake is pure muck that should be forgotten quickly!

Edgar Wright and Simon pegg are in Land, but more importantly Tom Savini is in Dawn and its remake! Now he's a genius

    Update:

Day: i liked, but was alot less zombie.
Night: i love from what i can remember, its been a while)
Land:i liked, again, wasnt perfect, but it was fun.
Dawn: its next on the list.
Diary: Turned it off halfway through.

    Turd off Diary? Why
Its not great (took me a second watch to really rate it) but its good except for the one scene
in the hospital and for some strange reason there's no one in the hospital, surely its the first place people would run to!
