    Hi,
Just looking for advice from others in similiar boat.
Been looking for a trainee job now for 8mths. I have sent out endless cv's etc. I understand it is just the times at present but would love to hear others tips or stories etc.
I already have experience and i am continuing to sit my exams.
Do you cold call, email cv's or post them? What has worked for people? Make up a load of stuff to bulk the cv, or just sit back and what till things get better?
Wouldn't now be the best time of yr to be looking coming into to the busy season. I have heard that the jobs aren't advertised as they are gone by word of mouth as soon as a vacancy arises or before.
    Thanks:rolleyes:

When I was looking last year I did a variety of things.
    - Applied to all relevant jobs on employment sites, including the recruiter sites.
    - I checked the ICAI, ACCA and CPA websites for job listings.
    - Went through all the firms/practices listed on goldenpages.ie and looked at the websites provided.
    - I sent a CV to all firms with a website whether they were accepting applications or not.
    - I noted the firms who were hiring or who state they consider applicants throughout the year and rang them 2-3 days after submitting my CV via email.
    - I rang many of the firms without a website inquiring about a possible position and forwarded my CV to those who invited me to.

Be sure to keep a detailed record of who you sent your CV to, when you sent it, when you rang, and so on.

I didn't hear anything back until I started doing this. After I started contacting the firms, I received 5-6 interviews from those firms. I know economy is worse off now, but it couldn't hurt. It's better to be proactive.

    Best of luck to you.

I have done all of the above except calling after sending in my cv. That must make the difference between getting the interview or not.
    Thanks for that

Well, there's no guarantee, but it sure doesn't hurt.
    Best of luck to you.
