So its cool for me to go wild with my posts as usual ;)

Sounds like a clever solution, kudos to those involved.

I can understand your intentions oisin, but personally, i don't think its a good idea, its pretty much the only hot topic in the main forum and removing it to here seems pointless. theres no other reason to go to the main forum now bar to pass through it into this sub forum.

If ya look back, i think the last time a mods intervention was seen in the thread was by the master maybe a month or more ago(and the mods would agree it was over the top), there hasn't been any indication to suggest it needs to go this way and it also means even more difficulty using it on a mobile device since you'll have to read one thread for the news and then route to another one to post. It also means a lot of whats said will appear out of context when theres multiple news topics going on and people will have to keep linking to what they are referring to. I think this thread is too busy to work like the photo's ones do.

    +1 Richie.

I think it's much easier to read when it's all in one section and as with the way Boards isn't a dedicated airsoft forum, doesn't allow a separate News section like e.g Arnies. It just makes it all a bit more confusing really and is a pain for mobile browsing as Richie said, and don't see it as necessary at all.

great to see more feedback, this is only a trial and an attempt to tidy things up, had people complain about the old was and know people complaining about a new way, news please 100% of people

i can see it both way, i just thought this was a nice middle ground, for example from the last 5 pages of the news thread there are 18 news posts and 56 other posts, some of this are question where as a large number are just random other than heavy moding in the thread to keep things on topic (then again another debate on what is on topic? ) which people where unhappy about when this was tried, not much more to try :(

The main thing is where the News threads are placed, they are now in a sub forum and not in the main one anymore. There is now little to no need to use the main page anymore as nearly every single topic now has a sub forum.

The main page will mainly consist of new users which most of the time miss the sticky for newbies in the getting started section.

Sure get rid of the main forum altogether!

have to echo the lads sentiments on this, the thread was never too messy to begin with, bar the odd time when some people went too OT.

By splitting the threads i think your goin to have a discussion goin on about a product in one thread and the actual content being discussed on a seperate thread, leading to people scanning through either thread to make some sense of the other and eventually missing out on either a piece of news, or its discussion.

    Just ban that DOC fella...:pac:

There is nothing wrong with the news thread. Its handy to see the pictures and then read peoples comments following on from the picture. Now you have to see the news in one thread and then try find the comments in another thread which could be pages back with no heading.

The reason I moved it to this forum is because there are just too many stickies in the main one to have it there.

Righty o, tell you what. I'll leave it as is for the moment and use this as a feedback thread to get your opinions on the matter. (Will stick up a poll too) is If everyone wants it old way then I'll move it back asap.

    Change, it's a scary thing... ;)

TBH, I feel the same way about the pics threads.

You get one tab opened that takes an age to load, and at best, you flip between one tab and the next to get the comments on the gear.

Internet forums cater well to inline discussion, not so well to multiple splits of the same topic. Not all of us have low latency or high bandwidth, and navigating boards can be a real pain in the arse if you have a normal web connection if you have to keep clicking to get to things to read the same topic essentially.

The picture threads are always going to have many high res images and will be non dialup friendly. Splitting the two means people with slower connections will at least be able to read/reply to the discussion without having to constantly be clicking the high res thread.
It also means you have a nice showcase of everyones gear without it being broken up with chatter about where they got stuff etc. It's especially good for newbies to get an idea of what's available out there.

The picture thread was never a place for discussion. Just to show off your stuff. we had a lot of people clicking from the boards.ie front page with 'OMFG is that legal! where can I get that pellet gun!' etc.
So we slapped a big 'no dicussion' on it to stop the jibberish.

The discussion thread was just an afterthought a long time later when some people were asking for a place to discuss the sweet stuff they were seeing in all these pictures.

+1 I think news should go back to the main forum as well. Its a thread that does'nt need to be stickied as its kept alive on its own merit by the regular posters.

Thats a very good point, i dont think ive ever had to look in page 2 for the thread when i wanted to post something. :)

Thats true, and about the point of there being too many stickies on the main page: There are two charters that could be merged imo, and the retailer experience sticky could go to the retailer sub fourm. I know that sub fourm is for retailers that pay to be there and the RE sticky can list anyone anybody has had a dealing with.

But moving them two could provide space from the two News stickies on the main page if need be but like what was already said I can't remember it ever dropping off page 1.

No offense to anyone, but I think this is a stupid idea. The people complaining about there being too much chat and not enough news should go to dedicated news sites like airsoftnews.eu, the main reason the old forum was successful is because you can see peoples opinions and get some insight without having to go back and forth between pages on two different threads. Plus a bit of banter never hurt anyone, this separation is just a buzz kill and if you want proper news got to a proper news site.

You could still have banter and get opinions on the discussion thread. I don't see how dedicating one thread just to news reports hampers that..? This just cleans it all up a bit.

I also don't get this whole 'popping back and forth between threads' thing being such a massive inconvenience either. You see a new peice of airsoft news and then post in the other about said news. It's not really that traumatic to be honest.

The point that the 'antis' make that would concern me the most is the impact having it in the reviews sub forum might have.

Anyway, I not for either idea really, I just thought this might be a solution to some of the stuff I was reading in feedback.

    Get voting people!

But thats all well and good if the topic of conversation is the latest piece thats been added to the news thread, if you imagine some big release posted in there and a day or two later after loads of other news, (theres something new pretty much every day) then you'll have people still talking about that 2 days old news aswell as the more recent stuff. people will have to keep referring to their topic each time and it would get pretty messy. It has been the case in the past with the "photo's of your kit" thread but on a lesser scale, the News thread is far to busy for that format in my opinion. :)

Bah, I don't like it! I want to talk about that AGM MG42, and I have to come on to this silly thread to do it, bah!

My personal opinion is that even if we were going to stick to the two thread lay out, you could leave these in the main forum and just not sticky them, I've never seen the news thread slip off the first page and it hasn't been stickied up till now.

I don't really see what the problem with the old format was though, I think we did a reasonably good job of not getting too OT in the news thread, there'd be a post about something, a few posts asking questions etc, then a new news post, worked fine IMO, infact sometimes the discussion posts made it easier to find a particular post when you were looking back through it.

You can't please everyone though, I think the real question is, will there be more posts in the feedback thread complaining about the new airsoft news format than there was about the old?

Here's an idea that might simplify things a tad.
Instead of pushing the News thread in here, how about moving the retailers experience/advice sticky into Reviews and the team announcements into the Getting started section. Both are more relevant in those areas and that'll free up sticky space for the News thread to be placed in the main forum as a sticky.
Leave the discussion thread un-stickied so it's not too cluttered up top because, as Spetz says, it's one of the busiest threads and it never slips off page one anyway.

Well it seems the masses have spoken.

I will get the news thread moved back the way it was. As for the stickies, we will take some of the ideas on board and review how everything looks.
But for the moment lets just stick with getting things back to the way they were in regards to this thread.

    Yeah sounds good

But dont ban me, the thanks were clearly just thanking funny humour, I never stray off topic and I always post constructive things in the news forum
